A rather frustrated customer took to the popular supermarket’s Facebook page on Wednesday to share an image of the kids snack.

The pack containing slices of apple and four cherry tomatoes has caused quite a stir.

Madie Porter wrote, “This is one of the most pathetic things I have ever seen.”

“I don’t know how I feel about this. We really are starting to become one lazy society.

“Environmentally friendly?…. So much unnecessary plastic.”

Comments included claims that lazy parenting facilitated such products for children and using plastic for sliced fruit would only end if people stopped using it.

Woolworths were quick to respond to the post and inform customers that stores across Australia had moved to cut down plastic waste, shared Yahoo 7.

“We’re really pleased to let you know that the packaging for this range can be recycled in our REDcycle bins available in all our Woolworths Supermarkets,” a spokesperson said.

“Plastics recycled through this program are turned into things like furniture.”

“We know this is an important issue and we’re reducing the use of plastic on fruit and vegetables,” they added, saying plastic had been removed from the packaging for kale, English spinach, organic spring onions and sweet potatoes.

“We know there is a lot more plastic to remove and this is just the start”.

We are all for convenience and helping make MoM’s lives easier. After all it can be recycled!

So what do you think? Convenience or lazy parenting?

Coles has recently been under attack over their mini collectables range with people saying they obviously don’t respect the environment at all. (read more here)

  • I dont think anyone would be buying these to give their kids on a daily basis but in an emergency it would be great to dash in and grab one of these and toss it in the lunch box and off you go.

  • It could be an alternative if you are travelling long distance and don’t want to have to open and rummage around in cooler bag for bits & pieces, especially in warm/hot weather. Small packs like this be put in backpacks or other small bags in the back of the car with the children able to have access to them .

  • It’s a handy idea if your kids are hungry and you are shopping. If you are short on time then they are a great backup but you know how fresh these are if you make them up yourself

  • It’s another way to spend money stupidly in my opinion. Buy the articles and cut them up for your kids if you need to and save some money. Maybe that way you’ll get that house you might be after.

  • It’s a little bit of both, in my opinion! I create little packs for our Punks using reusable containers and they love it, sometimes things just need to be presented differently to interest them but that doesn’t necessarily mean it needs to be pre-packaged food. At least it’s all recyclable??

  • Children can be so incredibly fussy with food. We know that. If it is a means that a child will eat this food prepared in this way, so be it. They will grow out of it. And, the materials are recyclable, so all things considered. Some parents are lazy. Some parents are trying to get their kids to eat healthy any way possible. If you don’t like it, don’t buy it.

  • this sort of thing is very common in Europe. Good idea if people are not prepared to do it them selves then at least the kids do not miss out on fruit and veggies.

    • I agree – it is a better alternative than children missing out.

  • I prepare lunch boxes with my own sliced fruit and veg – but this is a good alternative for those that don’t for whatever reason. As long as kids are getting their fruit and veg it is ok.

  • I don’t think it is a good idea to teach kids that fresh food comes in packaging. How hard is it to give them an apple or banana and slice it up, if you don’t have a knife, give them to them whole, I used to give my son a whole apple to chew on when he was not even two without a problem, they just take little bites. Makes me wonder how they stop the apple from going brown and if they cleaned their knives properly before cutting, more risk of bacteria on ready cut fruits and veg.

  • I think it’s great. Often I find myself in shops and buns hungry but only things easily accessible are bad food court items.

  • I think it is a great idea, if there is an emergency and you have to run out the door it is great, you might have been caught out longer than you thought or a later trip home in the car than you thought, much better than some of the foods you could grab

  • Personally I think lazy parenting. You don’t need much work to put those same products in your kid’s lunchbox.
