Dad left in shock after he was forced out of the parents’ change room by a group of mothers.

Troy Tinson, from Western Australia’s Mandurah, claims he walked into the parents’ change room in a local shopping centre to change his daughter’s nappy when three women stood in front of the change tables and told him he wasn’t welcome.

‘They said there were women breastfeeding in the room and that he wasn’t welcome, that he was a male and that there were male toilets that he could access,’ Troy’s wife Terina told ABC Perth on Friday.

‘He was devastated, he’s a great dad, a hands on dad. He looks after the girls while I’m at work and he’s a great father.’

Troy was then forced to change his daughter on the sink in the men’s toilets, he felt very insulted by the experience.

Dads too often made to feel creepy

It’s not the first time a dad has been made to feel unwanted and creepy in a parent room.

A QLD Dad was called a “sicko” and forced to leave a shopping centre parent’s room while changing his son’s nappy. Read his story here.

Another dad was told he was a ‘dirty old man’ for taking his seven-week-old baby into the parents’ room. Read his story HERE.

  • What abhorrent behaviour of the women.

  • Its a PARENTS room and not a MOTHERS room.
How rude. Its a shame that he didnt stand his ground. he could ahve gone straight to center management and asked for a security office to accompany him back to the Parents room and if anyone complained they should have been politely asked to leave,

  • I can’t understand how those women think. Very selfish.

  • I’ve never noticed that these rooms are called Female Parents’ Rooms. Isn’t a Father a parent as well? If a Mother can feed her baby when everyone is eating surely a Father can use the Parent’s rooms to change his child’s nappy.

  • Shame on those women! Just let the man do what he’s gotta do

  • Maybe something should change in the signage of the parents room, clearly stating than men and women are allowed. This way maybe some of these women who didn’t let the man change his child, wouldn’t enter at all.

    • Good idea – the sign should also be quite firm about the rights of all parents to use the facilities.

  • That poor father, I can’t believe this happened to him. And how bad that he had to change his baby in a (dirty) mens bathroom.

  • I can’t believe this is happening to the poor dads. they are fathers, and it was a parents room not a moms room.

  • It is so sad that his has happened. We rant and rave that men/Dads don’t do enough parenting, and here is a Dad/man trying to do his best or go about his normal day with his child. The behaviour of those mums/women was atrocious. We need to look at other options so as not to ostracise or alienate Dads/men wanting to be good parents.

  • Utterly ridiculous and discriminatory! Since when has breast feeding become ‘sexualised’ so that a man can’t even be in the vicinity? Those rooms usually provide private curtained areas for feeding anyway and what about all the women popping them out in public areas and making everyone see? No one is game to tell them to go and breast feed in a toilet! Same rules apply. That poor father was simply trying to care for his daughter’s needs.

  • I just don’t understand how women can act like that. It’s beyond me. Obviously they have not been in the position this poor man is. Ridiculous but it happens with too much regularity. Hello it’s a baby change room not a womens only change room.

  • Disgraceful behaviour! It’s a PARENTS room. What don’t people understand about that? I’ve seen this kind of story way too many times and it makes me sad that Dads are being discriminated against just for being Dads. If this ever happens in front of me I will most certainly stand up for the Dad!

  • The most important thing is the babies it’s awful someone would make anyone trying to change a baby feel unwelcome in the baby change area. If we want equality we need to support men staying home and looking after their children while their Mum works.

  • Absolutely shameful behaviour! Management should have been informed and action taken. No gender can claim these areas – they are shared areas for the community and for parents and babies.

  • That is terrible.. what a great dad trying to do the right thing. Those women should be ashamed of themselves.
