A WA family have been left heartbroken after their two year old son died following a battle with Influenza A.

Elijah David Huynh died in Perth Children’s Hospital on Tuesday, according to a GoFundMe page.

The little boy was flown to the hospital from his family home in Karratha, about 1500km north of Perth.

Elijah’s father Dave Huynh wrote on Facebook that saying goodbye to his boy “just doesn’t feel real” and “I just want him back”.

“You were and still are the love of our lives, we couldn’t thank you enough for making us the happiest parents in the world,” Mr Huynh wrote.

“You taught us a lot in such a short period which we will be eternally grateful for. We will always remember the amazing times we spent together.”

Little Elijah turned two just last month on the 3rd of June.

Our thoughts are with the family.

Please mums! It is not too late to get the flu vaccine.

  • Must be heart breaking to lose a loved one this way. Even worse is the anti vaxxers preaching against vaccines

  • The number of deaths due to flu this year has been horrific, as has the number of reported cases. Not all are reported. It seems to be higher earlier in the year than precious ones. We haven’t arrived at the peak time of year yet.
