A range of plates have been pulled from a major retailer after being slammed as “fat shaming”.

Macy’s were forced to remove a series of dishes that feature “portion control” circles after social media users condemned them.

The range features a dinner plate with three rings from the largest “mom jeans” to a medium “favourite jeans” to the minuscule “skinny jeans”, according to a photo snapped by disturbed passer-by Alie Ward.

She posted the picture to Twitter on Sunday with the comment, “How can I get these plates from @Macys banned in all 50 states”.

The retail giant “quickly removed the plates” from the shelves of STORY after the public outcry, a spokesperson said in a statement to The Post.

“We apologise to our customers for missing the mark on this product,” they added.

Do you find them offensive?

  • Haven’t had such a good laugh in years. Didn’t find the plates offensive in any way.

  • I don’t find them offensive but probably should have thought more about Mom jeans.

  • They should have worded it differently, very stupid indeed.

  • Who thought of these? The portion size image is okay, but not the connotation that goes with it.

  • Mmm, they’re not my taste but portion sizing is a real issue. Perhaps if they weren’t so negative?

  • It may seem cute but to me it’s a form of bullying. Glad they’ve removed them from the shelves and are listening to customers

  • I think there are worse things than this being sold, and you always have a choice whether to buy them or not, so I don’t really agree with pulling them off the shelves. What about all those offensive mugs or signs in those gifts stores they sell (or used to).

  • People are so fragile! 1 year ago I was obese and I still would have laughed at this. Now I am 32kg lighter and find this even funnier.

    • Well done! What a great achievement! You must be incredibly proud of yourself. :-)

      • You must indeed be proud of yourself MrsA, well done !!
