When in the “great expectations” stage of trimester 3 (T3), it makes good sense to see what the celebs are doing to balance the bump and look their best.

And a consistent theme is the single shouldered glam gown.

Why?

The shoulders and arms are one of the few places that pregnancy weight is not distributed (hips, thighs and butt are a different matter all together….) in preparation for breastfeeding.

So, there’s still a semblance of normality around this area that might even include some bone-age and angles – shoulder, elbow, jaw, clavicle – in contrast to the rest of the body which is super C-U-R-V-Y.

A single shoulder draws the eye away from the bump up to the face and hair, which is a great opportunity for some knockout feature earrings.

It also elongates the neck resulting in a taller and thinner appearance to balance the bump – clever!

Take some tips from these celebrities and their one shouldered red carpet frocks:

Twilight’s Bryce Dallas Howard shows her incredible T3 baby bump dressed in basic black jersey one-shouldered number with a flash of citrus.

Jennifer Lopez looks fantastic at any time and she maintained her panache when pregnant with her first child back in 2006. This dress combines some classic tips for T3 for bump balance – one shoulder, empire waist falling from right up under the fitted bust and a full and flowing drop and floor length to create extra height. Perfect!

How chic does Danni Minogue look in 2010 just before she gave birth in July? This one-shouldered number in black glitter is a bump hugger – perfect if yours isn’t too enormous (Jessica Simpson did something similar in 2012). See that shoulder bone, the up-hair and the earrings? All perfect for T3 dressing to move the eye up away from the baby and onto you!

  • They all look incredible, but I bloated like I was being paid to do it! I was snoring from month 2, went up a shoe size until my feet swoll upwards. Happy for the gals who don’t have that symptom, but also lovingly hate you for it hehe.

  • They look great!
I wish I could say this was true about my arms but I’m pretty sure they got quite fat around this time as I couldn’t squeeze them into my leather jacket which has always been quite loose around that area.

  • Wow, they do look good, but let’s not forget their limitless amounts of money to be able to look like this. Not like us average normal mums
