QLD mum posts a Facebook ad for grandparents to help with her two young sons.

Bree Fennell has two sons but she’s always felt there’s something missing.

Her parents passed away when she was young and her boys’ paternal grandmother lives far away, so she worries they aren’t getting the special bond only a grandparent can provide.

She’s decided to take matters into her own hands and posted an ad on Facebook looking to adopt a grandparent

“Both of my parents passed away when I was young and now that I have children I’m really feeling for my boys missing out on having grandparents to share their/ our lives with and make memories with,” it reads.

“I have such fond memories of my childhood filled with love and happiness with my nan and pop and I’d love for my boys to have the same experiences.”

“Please note I’m not looking for a babysitter or wanting to exchange money. I genuinely want to invite you into our family and us to be invited into yours.”

Do you think grandparents are an important figure in a child’s life?

  • I really hope this works out for her. Grandparents are amazing

  • Grandparents can be important – it depends on the relationships.

  • I really hope this works out well for her. I was at the shops last week and an old man stopped me and my husband to ask how old our son was. He explained that he wanted to be a grandpa for so long and he finally became one and his son moved overseas for work and he never gets to physically see his grandson. You could see the emotion on his face, so something like this would be amazing for people like him

  • Nice idea but I don’t know how safe this is in reality

  • Growing up without my Dad, my Grandparents on both sides were definitely important in my life.
My MIL lives with us and she helps a bit. Based on her relationship with her other grandkids, including her favourites, there isn’t a special bond with her.
I do think having other special relationships are important but not guaranteed. A special aunt or uncle might be just as good. Or even a “aunt or uncle” that isn’t actually facing, but might as well be.

  • I would be lost without my mums help. I totally get why she’s doing this for her boys.

  • This is so sweet. I hope life guides this family to their perfect match & that the friendships fill a void & provide comfort for all involved. Kids can provide such joy for older people, and the little ones just adore them. I wonder if it’s because they know how quickly these years fly by & really slow down to pay attention in the moment with the kiddies. It’s beautiful to watch, good luck to all! <3

  • I definitely believe that grandparents are an important figure for any child. My grandparents dies when I was just 3 so I always missed that love from grandparents so I can relate to that.

  • I’m actually really grateful not to have grandparents interfering.

  • I wonder whether she found anyone suitable?

  • Grandparents are great, although I was only really close to 1, but she passed away when I was 16

  • How sad! But understand the joy that having grandparents can bring a child. But they won’t miss what they don’t have. I didn’t have much contact with my grandparents growing up but never missed it because I didn’t know any better.
