The Summer Olympics in Rio are almost here and it’s time to get some Olympic craft happening at your house.

My kids love watching the Olympics and we love hosting our own mini Olympics with fun actvities. It’s easy to make your Olympic games even more exciting by making some medals to award to the kids.

Gold medal

What you’ll need:

  • Air dry clay
  • Circle cutter or lid
  • Knife
  • Paint
  • Ribbon

Method:

  1. Roll out your air dry clay on wax paper.
  2. Lightly press a circle shape in the clay – don’t cut all the way through.
  3. Get the kids to decorate the circle.
  4. Cut a rectangle holder for the ribbon and then cut out your medal shape.
  5. Leave clay to dry.
  6. Paint the medals and leave to dry.
  7. Add ribbon.
  8. Host your own Olympic games.

These are easy to make and so much fun to give. Make your own family Olympics or even an Olympic birthday party with friends.

What do you think, will you make some? Please add comment below.

  • these look lovely! I can only hope that if we try this they’ll turn out as well. Just one question – where can you find waxed paper nowadays? I think it’s vanished from the supermarkets, replaced with silicone baking paper and zip-lock bags.

  • Cute and great idea. We bought the cheap version at the Reject Shop years ago when my son was younger and created our own mini Olympics in our back yard. It was great fun.

  • These would be great for a school participation event – hope it would be done in off Olympic years to keep the idea alive in children’s minds.

  • These are so cool. As a kid my brother had an Olympics themed birthday party and this would have been a great activity for them to do.
