Jeremy Martin-Weber of Portland, Oregon, has gone viral after sharing a lengthy post about getting on with his fatherly duties, beginning with a photo of his wife heading off to catch a plane.

‘Jessica, the mother of our six children, is boarding an airplane as I type, headed out of town, out of state, for work for the next several days,’ he wrote.

Now, he added, it was time to ‘figure out who’ would be taking on everything that comes with raising six children, including everything from comforting them when they have nightmares, to reading them stories, and even helping his teen daughters with their ‘feminine problems’.

To answer that burning question, Jeremy simply stated that the person in charge of all these important duties will be: ‘Me.’

‘Because I’m not the babysitter. I’m not just their playmate,’ he wrote. ‘I’m their dad.

‘And looking after them and guiding them and caring for them is my responsibility. And I love it – with all of its challenges.’

He went on to explain that the house wouldn’t ‘fall apart’ or end up ‘trashed’ simply because dad was going to be on his own with the kids, shares Daily Mail.

He also insisted that a dad should never receive ‘special praise’ simply for looking after his children.

‘I’m just doing what every parent should do, and what moms do every day without praise or adoration,’ he said.

‘It is enough that the mother of our children and I communicate our appreciation to each other for all the things we do for our family.’

Jeremy’s touching post has since been shared more than 1,000 times on Facebook and gained more than 3,000 reactions – not to mention hundreds of comments praising his words.

Go dad!  I LOVE this.  The one thing that does really gripe me is when the father tells people he is on “babysitting” duties.  Ummm no.  You are just parenting your own kids dude.

  • Bravo! Bravo! It used to drive me nuts when people praised my husband for parenting his child. It is his job, his duty, his priority, and he loved it. We need to change the narrative. There are two parents, and Mum should not be treated any lesser. This needs to stop. Well done Dad for your article.

  • Good on the Dad.

  • it is great when a father steps up and does these things that a good father is supposed to be doing. At least he is there, no matter what people want to call it.

  • I know a couple of Mums who go on holidays together while the respective Dads look after the kids. I think the kids enjoy the break too. They appreciate their Mums more when they come home refreshed.

  • We call it “kid duty” when either one of us is doing it alone for some reason. It’s not baby sitting.
