This Sydney shopping centre has taken the title of the best public toilet in the country for its super glamorous loo.

A western Sydney shopping centre has taken the title of the best public toilet in Australia. Westpoint Blacktown’s recently upgraded bathrooms ticked all the boxes for judges of the annual Best Bathrooms Competition. Its unique design and clever layout have made it a must-see for shopping centre patrons.

It’s The Little Things…

The newly renovated public toilet features a state of the art parents room and touch-free fixtures to improve hygiene. Not only is the bathroom practical, but timber and terrazzo finishes throughout give it a luxurious feel. If all that is not enough, the architecturally designed space includes individual feeding pods, providing privacy for mums and entertainment for older children with interactive toys in each pod. Andrew Lawson, a spokesperson for Total Facilities who run the annual competition, said the Westpoint bathroom is simply a cut above. “The family room was a standout aesthetically because when you go to different shopping centres and airports, you are generally greeted with white walls and placid features,” he said. “That alone can change the overall feel.”

Tough Competition

Westpoint’s public toilet faced tough competition, with four other bathrooms also making the final shortlist.  i2C Architects who are responsible for the winning space, showcased their design at a dedicated competition showcase in Darling Harbour last month. The showcase highlighted the need for public toilets to be more than just a necessity. “Designers were able to push the boundaries and set benchmarks in the industry by proving the human experience can be enhanced in any space,” interior manager Magdalena Uscinowicz said.

We think these public toilets will make a huge difference for parents and those requiring accessible spaces. If only all shopping centres had facilities like these!

  • They are pretty posh. Give it time though and the vandals will have destroyed it. Sad but true

  • Isn’t this a big step up from when we had a disabled unisex toilet/change room? I know bathrooms have been improved in various shopping centres since then but how luxurious is this? Better late than never. I am glad mothers and kids aren’t crammed into a change room size space with a curtain to pull across.
