The fitness superstar is under fire after a celebrating the impending arrival of her first child.

Kayla Itsines is no stranger to pregnancy controversy. It seems like ever since she made the announcement last year, the fitness guru has been forced to justify almost everything, including her decision to continue to exercise. The latest wave of criticism has come after a baby shower planned by her sister Leah was labelled ‘extravagant’ by the Instagram star’s 11 million followers.

Tickled Pink

With the baby girl’s arrival in May growing ever closer, Leah threw her sister a pastel pink baby shower complete with marble tables, a pink and chrome balloon installation, and personalised cookies news.com.au reports. The Aussie fitness star’s fiance, Tobi Pearce, was also in attendance and the pair shared a number of cute couple snaps on their respective social accounts. Kayla wore a pale pink dress in keeping with the theme of the day and looked every bit the glowing mum-to-be. “You’re stunning! You’re the most beautiful pregnant lady I’ve ever seen!” said one Instagram follower. “Motherhood looks good on you!” said another.

A Bit Extra

While many comments on the post shared excitement for the couple, some were critical of the extravagance of the celebration. “This baby shower is so extra,” said one comment. “It’s a bit extravagant for me,” wrote another. The comments come just after Tobi threw an over the top surprise engagement party for Kayla, and the couple posted their Instagrammable gender reveal only a few weeks ago.

While we don’t think many mums would be able to afford to replicate Kayla’s shower, bigger isn’t necessarily better – no balloon arrangement or centrepiece can replace a fun celebration with friends and family.

  • Ba humbug. Leave her alone she can do what she wants and she isn’t hurting anyone

  • If you don’t want to be criticized then don’t post things on social media.

  • I would do it if I had the money, why not, you can’t take it with you

  • I didn’t have a shower at all. I think having events like that where guests feel obligated to buy you a gift is terrible! Each to their own.

  • Jealousy is so ugly. Get over it, she has more money than you. How people spend their money shouldn’t be an issue for you. I have no idea who this person is or why people care about her baby shower.

  • It is true that if you can’t say something nice maybe you should keep your opinion to yourself.
How do we know that only one person paid for the event.

  • I don’t see any problem with it. If you have the money who is anyone to judge what you want to do with it and how big you want to make anything

  • It certainly does look extravagant, but that’s the lifestyle that some people have. If I had the money, I’d go all out too!

  • Like Bec & Cosi said on the radio, the cost of the shower versus her income is not that much and think of all the businesses they supported.
If you have the money why not lash out before you are up to your armpits in dirty nappies and not getting a full 8hrs of sleep!

  • It’s all for instagram and her followers so bound to be over the top as that what gets followers.

  • Oh well, who is anyone to judge if it’s within their budget.

  • I guess it’s a lot of money to most of us mere mortals. For them, they’re millionaires many times over. It’s their money, they’ve earned it and done the hard yards and don’t need to justify anything to anyone. Good on them for having their family so involved. I should be so lucky!

  • I guess that old saying Jealousy is a curse! – only jealous people would feel the need to call her out on her “extravagant baby shower” – just imagine what they will do for her child’s first birthday!

I think people should start remembering “if you can’t say anything nice, then say nothing at all”!
