Hello!

So… we’ve heard of Keeping Up With The Kardashians. Love them or Loathe them!

BUT have you heard of The Jones’? I’ve heard the phrase my entire life. It’s when you want to keep up with latest trends and have “the best”, be seen as having the best and ultimately The Jones are the people we want to be like! But who are they? Where did this come from?

I was thinking about this recently, and concluded.

THE JONES DON’T EXIST

What is this invisible stress we put on ourselves, unnecessarily? Who are these people we strive to be like?

I don’t see anybody perfect anywhere, certainly not as a parent.

We need to, as parents LET GO of this unattainable and nonexistent lifestyle.

O.K so someone has a Smart TV your son would like. A mum has the garden you covet. But overall there is no family living that wonderful life, on that greener grass, atop the sunlit hill. INSIDE the home is a struggle, challenge, stress.

Look at celebrities. A perfect example of money and success not being the answer to settled, harmonious marriages.

We, as people seem to be on that search for something more, or something else. Possibly, too many options today. Too many comparisons and feeling inadequate.

Or have THIS and THAT, therefore life is complete.

No! It doesn’t work this way.

I believe the more you discover your authentic self and nurture this, then you will be happier.

Don’t KEEP UP. Just BE a lot more.

BE in the moment. BE present and BE grateful.

  • Nope, I have never felt the need to keep up with anyone. I run my own race, win or lose, it’s up to me and no one else

  • I agree to nurture your true self and don’t be afraid to be what ever you want to be.

  • I don’t think I’ve ever heard of this expression before haha! I don’t follow it anyway.

  • Nope, never felt the need to keep up with the Jones, never been fussed with things or brand stuff. I buy what I need when I need, no pressure

  • It can be easy to get swept up in the want for material items
Although the absence of them creates a sense of freedom

  • There was a thing on FB the other day. Follow artists not influensers. You’ll be inspired instead of judged.

  • it is so hard to not compare these days

    Reply

  • Yep, and stop comparing yourself to others on social media

  • Just be true to yourself and not keeping up with other people.

  • I don’t bother about what others have. I am content with what I have and that’s it. My sibling and my in-laws are all about who has what and who copied who and all that .
Who seriously has the time energy and money for it?

    • Exactly !

      • And you know what? They probably are getting in debt to just keep up with each other! I think just be happy with what you have and not compare or try to be something you aren’t just to look better to friends and family

  • A personalised plan for your own authentic life is all that is needed.
Working towards having that life is the mission. :)

  • I could not agree more so so so true

  • Agree. It’s so hard not to compare yourself with others and i always try to remember to be happy with what i have because others would wish they had what i had too

  • I don’t try to impress anyone. We have a small home and live within our means. I know plenty of people who have flash houses, new cars, caravans etc, but are also in a world of debt and have to work crazy hours to keep up with it all…Im sure things aren’t all sunshine and rainbows for them! I am very happy with what I have and I have a healthy happy family and thats all that matters to me
