After countless requests, McDonald’s have finally caved to pressure and created a veggie meal especially for kids!

The humble Happy Meal has been given a facelift, with UK stores introducing a vegetarian option, giving more choice to kids and their families. While the new veggie version isn’t available in Australia yet, we’re sure it will be here in no time!

A Team Effort

McDonald’s worked with the UK’s Vegetarian Society and a team from the Britmums network to come up with the new meal. It includes a veggie wrap in place of the standard cheeseburger or nuggets, featuring ‘a red pesto goujon, tomato ketchup and shredded lettuce wrapped in a soft toasted tortilla.’ Finally, mini veggies won’t have to settle for a soft drink and hot chips! Children and their parents were used as taste testers during the creation of the Happy Meal, so we’re pretty sure it will be a hit with veggies and non-veggies alike.

More Choice

“We’re really proud to have worked closely with McDonald’s for over 10 years,” Lynne Elliot, CEO of The Vegetarian Society said. “It’s great to see their new veggie menu developing, especially as McDonald’s tell us a third of their customers think it’s more important to eat more veggie meals. There’s a growing demand for veggie food everywhere and it’s fantastic to see McDonald’s meeting the needs of their customers. It is especially important for young veggies to be able to choose something to eat when they are out with their friends.”

More choice is always good in our books, especially when it provides a healthy alternative, so we can’t wait to see this latest addition arriving in Australian McDonald’s stores in the near future!

  • This didn’t appear to still be in Australia, but would be a really good option, and also indicative of changing food requirements and to keep up with competition from other food outlets.

  • It’s a good idea. Gives variety and those kiddos who don’t eat/like meat wont miss out.

  • I will never understand why these big names are forever bowing down to the demands of minorities. How many people a day would go to McDonald’s and ask for a vegetarian menu item? Vegetarians would avoid the place like the plague

  • that is great news for those kids that miss out on the Macca’s experience. I personally would love to see mini wraps as an option in the kids happy meals but we don’t eat it so often its a bit like a treat for my kids
