Mum horrified when she realised that her mother-in-law had cropped her out of all the pictures from her baby’s 1st birthday!

“This past weekend my daughter had her first birthday party,” she explained on Reddit. “I was running around and asked my mum and my MIL to make sure they got plenty of pictures.

“My mother got some special shots… however I am cut out of EVERY SINGLE PICTURE that my MIL took.

“So much so that if I was on the right side of the photo there’s even more room on the left side to specifically avoid having me in the shot.

“There’s some of my husband with our daughter opening presents… and in every one you can just see my arm or my knee,” she shared.

When she confronted her MIL saying, “I wish I was in some [of the photos] … I noticed I am cut out of all your pictures,” her MIL texted back ‘found one!’ and tried to pass off one of the photos her husband took as her own.

The original post has since been deleted but over 160 comments with many saying the behaviour was just straight out malicious.

  • I do hope that this womans husband is supporting her through this. This is obvioulsy a MIL that cant be trusted and I would be very watchful with her from now on. I am so very thankful that my MIL and I had an awesome relationship and never had a bad word between us. I adored her and she me. I felt very loved.

  • I don’t think I would want anything more to do with her unless when necessary. On such an important occasion, that is cruel.

  • If she doesn’t want to go to her granddaughters 2nd birthday she’s going about it the right way.

  • I would most certainly let her know she won’t be taking photos again at one of our gatherings that is if she is invited again. And I’d tell her to sort it out with her son.

  • How could a MIL do something like this. I’m so lucky mine was nothing like this. Mine even made my wedding dress to save us some money.

  • Wow! I would NEVER ask my MIL to take photos, I would give the responsibility to someone else. Or if absolutely desperate, I would give her some guidelines on what photos I want taken. What a piece of work. I understand as I was often the photography for events with my in-laws so I am missing from many big celebrations – and noticably so. We’ve totally disconnected from them now, so I have no issue in not being in their photos. Easier to try to erase the memories of them.

  • That’s very annoying, it’s so hard to host a party and take photos and these photos are not to be repeated doesn’t the MIL understand that

  • I just don’t understand why anyone would do this. It’s so juvenile.

  • Wow how petty can you get. What I don’t understand with in laws like this is don’t they realise their grandkids are seeing all this happen? When this little girl gets older I bet she’ll be asking what happened to her mum in all those pics. I’d be hurt if my grandmother did that to my mum, this MIL needs to keep that in mind.

  • Very disrespectful and nasty thing to do

  • Seems a bit nasty. Some inlaws just suck!

  • No matter what issues you have you need to put them aside for the sake of your children. All the MIL had to do was crop the pics later. That way she didn’t have to have any pics with her daughter in law but her granddaughter would have those memories. Now when she is older the parents will have to say your grandmother deliberately cut me out, which could damage the bond between grandmother and granddaughter

  • That is plain rude. She can’t deny that her granddaughter is yours. Makes you wonder what was on her mind when she did that. If she doesn’t apologise I would make sure she doesn’t get a chance to take any in future.

  • That’s not good – it doesn’t bode well for the future.

  • Not pretty behaviour from this MIL.
