Australian model Belle Lucia has hit back at critics who believe her baby bump is too small at five months pregnant.

Aussie model and Instagram star Belle Lucia has been forced to defend herself after she was shamed for the size of her baby bump. The social media celebrity is five months along and has been documenting her experience since she announced her pregnancy just over a month ago, but many believe she doesn’t look pregnant at all…

Every Woman Is Different

Belle said she was tired of the constant comments about her bump. “Just because I’m not showing as much as you doesn’t mean my pregnancy is ‘unhealthy’ or that I’m promoting a ‘skinny’ pregnancy,” she wrote in her Instagram story, sharing photos of other pregnant women. “As you can see, women show very differently but are all carrying a little life.” Belle said that the nature of her job means her body is under constant scrutiny, but that the latest wave of comments went way too far. “It’s just my body and I can not help how I’m showing like many other women,” she said. “Body shaming is not ok, no matter how ‘big’ or ‘small’ one is.”

We can completely understand Belle’s frustration. Pregnancy is already such a vulnerable time, and to be faced with constant comments and questions can’t be easy. If she and bub are both happy and healthy, that really is the most important thing.

  • When I was pregnant with my first this woman would join all us obviously pregnant woman at the exercise class and she would rock up in a leotard and had a figure to die for. One day one of the ladies said “Excuse me…I dont mean to be rude but what are you doing here?” ….we were stunned to find that she was 8mths pregnant.
She and I were in hospital at the same time after having our babies and she looked amazing and her bub was 7lbs 9oz and mine was 7lbs 8oz.

  • Is that her 5 month bump? Wow, I scrolled past it looking for a pregnant one and realised this is it. I had a small 5 month bump with my first, but not this small

  • It might also be her positioning towards the camera

  • Everyone’s bumps are different. People just have to stop being so judgemental with each other.

  • I didn’t show until around 6 months, people I was doing a TAFE class with didn’t know I was pregnant. Then I ballooned right up and have extremely loose skin because it lost its elasticity. I could make an origami swan from it. Everyone shows differently and 5 months is far too soon to have a go. Poor woman.

  • Wow! Noone gets to judge someone’s baby bump. Seriously. I was sick the entire 9 months and kept losing weight, whilst my baby was growing at a healthy rate. However, this meant I was all baby, but not necessarily as big as others. Nobody gets to judge someone’s baby bump. NO-ONE.

  • One Mum I knew didn’t show at all until she was 8 months pregnant. I believe it all depends on where the baby is lying. By the way, the baby weighed a healthy 7lb 4oz.

  • It is what it is. All the best to her.

  • Her words are beautiful. It shows an expectant mum, full of love and mixed up emotions and accepting of change. Every baby hides differently and body shaming is so wrong.

  • It’s probably because she has a long torso so the baby has more room to stretch

  • Everyone is different, if you are thin person chances are you won’t show much at first, I didn’t, most of it starting showing quite late.

  • My Mum told me about the time when she went for a check up when she was nearly 7 months pregnant. The Dr, that day was a Locum who didn’t even realise she was pregnant until she told him. The slacks she wore during most of her pregnancy when she was pregnant with my younger brother I couldn’t fit into when I was 17 y.o. and back then I was fairly skinny. Mum vomitted all the way through pregnancy and was admitted into hospital a few times to be re-hydrated.

  • First babies usually don’t show very much – no one knew I was having a baby and I was still swimming and surfing at 8 months pregnant.

  • My bump wasn’t visible till about the last month as I’m pretty tall & muscular. Both my babies were 9 pounds or more when born so not small.

  • My mum was so small, she was told to come back to the hospital in a couple of months when in fact she was 9 months and about to give birth to me. It is no-ones business but the mother. If it is her first baby, it is quite normal. Shame on the critics.
