Hello!

Should my 1 year old be eating fish? My son is 18 months and eats chicken and beef regularly. I tried him on fish once but he wasn’t too keen. Should I be serving him more fish? And if so, what and how often?

  • Definitely, they can from 6 months

  • Yes, he can eat fish. Try different types, tinned, red, white, grilled, crumbed. If he doesn’t like it, try it again later. Maybe he just doesn’t like fish.

  • yes! fish is very important in a childs diet.

  • why not?! But if he really dislikes it and makes a fuss each time you give him fish, try giving him once every fortnight instead of too often. I feed my daughter fermented cod liver fish oil everyday and fish once a month cuz she hates it but I don’t have to worry about her omega intake cuz she is already taking the best oil supplement :D

  • maybe just give him a little bit of tuna in a sandwich.

  • It is o.k, your choice!

  • Yes, my friend works for the Sydney Fish Market and their research suggests that it’s great for little children at least twice a week. As other commenters have noted though – be careful of the bones.

  • It’s really personnel choice & you need to be super careful that there are no bones.

  • fish is excellent brain food, my son loves his tuna sandwiches.

  • there are some good comments here

  • Yes, Australian fish mixed into sweet potato and maybe a little saffron is great. Fishcakes home made is best you know what in them and so easy. Mixed with some mashed potato at first and shallow fried, kids like finger food. I would shape these in finger and nugget shapes. Fish is three times a week in my family. Great brain food!

  • Yes, its very important in a well balanced diet.

  • Yep – can not hurt him

  • My little guy loves fish, and has it at least once a week :)

  • My daughter loves fish – good to try them on a range of foods
