Hello!

What are your tips for traveling on an airplane with a baby? Do you arrive at the airport early and feed them just before the flight? What other tips and tricks do you have?

  • dummy and water or milk in bottle. feed while take off and landing. play before flight so they are tired after and will sleep in flight

  • I liked to give them a feed on take off and landing to help with their ears popping. It also depends on their age and how long you were flying for. We only went for a few hours in the plane, but brought a few toys. My bub was too interested in looking around at everyone and playing with the lap tray.

  • I fed them at meal times. If meal time coincides with being on the plane, bonus as it meant they had one more thing to keep them occupied.

  • don’t stress though and just try to remember everything that will come in handy. apps are great and kids love them if they are age appropriate

  • First flew with bub aged 6 weeks. Travelled by plane at least every 3 months with bub until she was 3 years old. Routines go out the window – go with what the baby wants, especially once they are old enough to stay awake (around 6 months for mine). I found feeding during take off and landing was important as sucking motion relieved pressure in pubs ears and prevented them screaming in pain. Most flight attendants are very accommodating (even in economy) and will hold bub for you while you eat/drink if you ask. Changes in air pressure seemed to affect my bubs tummy – expect a poo on flight!

  • I didn’t I waited cause I was told its great to feed your baby when taking off, helps with the ears if you let them suck on something whether it would be breast, bottle, dummy etc

  • i travelled with a baby and toddler, what i found was if they have a dummy, let them suck on that during take off and landing, helps with equalising their ears, take some snacks on board, depending on your flight times, try to not let them nap, then they will have more of a chance of sleeping on the plane. you can take a bottle of formula or milk on board if need be. definately pack a change of clothes for you and bub, just in case.
