Hello!

I am going to take my 9 year old and 3 year old on a road trip along the Great Ocean Road. I can find all the things to see online (London Bridge etc) but can anyone suggest things for the kids also?

  • Oh what a fabulous road trip to go on! Such beautiful scenery and lots to see. I’m sure you all loved it

  • I came across some wonderful Great Ocean Road Websites that are packed full of information and tips and places to visit. May be worth taking a look at them. Google Great Ocean Road.

  • Do you have girls? I think there is a fairy forest that starts with A. Just can’t remember what it’s called.

  • Depending on how far you want to travel , Port Fairy’s east beach is great for families, has toilets and showers and right next to the lifesaving club , with shops close by. Further along Yambuk beach is another good stop , but would recommend swimming where most people do ,in the river mouth ( about 30cm deep) as the ocean has some nasty undercurrents. next comes Narrawong,
Narrawong has a great beach as well , next to the caravan park , or onto Portland which has a wonderful foreshore with many activities for the children .
If you have the time from Portland head out to Bridgewater , another good ocean beach , cafe and also has a beach and playground at the lake ( bridgewater lakes ), and if you head out past Nelson you will find the Princess Margret Rose caves ( near the South Australian border ) along the Glenelg River , a truely amazing experience , gift shop , guided tours of the caves ect.

  • Your problem will be too many places for you & the kids to enjoy. Lake Pertobe Adventure Playground at Warrnambool is a must. Nearby Tower Hill is a volcanic crater & chances are you’ll see emus and koalas. Drive out to Apollo Bay Lighthouse. Walk through the trees at the Otway Fly. Not to mention beach-fossicking galore. Not sure what websites you have checked, but greatoceanroad.com has some great info.

  • It’s all about the beach. Port Campbell is a great spot for the family – tourist park just metres from the bay, lifeguards in duty, fish and chips across the road. Great public amenities. Definitely a great spot to stop for a couple of days.
