  • Fish or sea food is a good healthy option if your family like it or lean beef, ie steak and salad or beef stirfry. Or you could try a meat free night and have a vegetarian option – like stuffed capsicums or baked potatoes etc… My family love quiche as well so we often have quiche and salad.

  • Just about any lean meat is a healthy option. If you prefer white meat, maybe fish in pork

  • Mince, roast beef, roast pork, roast lamb, lasagna, spagetti Bolognese, pasta, shepards pie, cottage pie, pizza,

  • Lists are endless

  • Woolworths has a fantastic yummy recipe online for Pumpkin Risotto. We also eat mostly chicken recipes and I thought I would have a week of new recipes to experiment with the changing taste buds of our kids. Amazingly they all loved it and asked for seconds, still tasty the day after if any is left over.

  • Duck is becoming quite readily available in supermarkets these days but red meat is actually quite healthy too, just use lean cuts (remove most of the fat) I personally thing red meat is essential for a young family, not every night but certainly every week, fish is also incredibly healthy and essential!

  • Try going vegetarian a few nights a week – lots of good recipe books around. Mince once a week is ok, and there are lots of variations on that too.

  • Turkey mince or turkey steaks are a great alternative. Tuna, lean cuts of beef, salmon or any fish for that matter.

  • So many choices nowadays in regards to swapping one food product for another. Do your family like fish? It’s usually on special every fortnight at the various supermarkets, and can be prepared in many ways. Depending on your budget you could have a vegetarian meal at least twice a week with plenty of colourful vegetables as they say we eat with our eyes before our tummies.

  • Does your family like fish? Very healthy and easy to cook. I just fry in a little bit of olive oil and squeeze lemon on to garnish.

  • with meat being so costly I tend to buy things like a roast lamb and have a roast for tea, I then make fritters for another meal and then freeze what is left to make a big pot of lamb and vegetable soup. If you want more ideas for chicken you can make enchiladas, I add diced chicken to carbonara, you can cut a slit in a breast and stuff it (my fav is feta and garlic butter)

  • Are you looking to replace the chicken with another lean meat? Try Kangaroo meat or mince in your meals, or look at doing things like meat free Monday. Otherwise, any meal can be fairly healthy depending on the way you prepare it.

  • What about introducing a few more vegetarian meals into your diet? I know kids are not always a big fan of veges but there are lots of way to make tasty and healthy meals that are also cheaper than meat. What about corn fitters, a tomato puree pasta sauce , jacket potatoes with kidney beans… the list goes on!!!
