Hello!

I am desperate to get rid of unwanted hair and used everything from waxing, shaving, hair removal creams, threading, epilator etc and cant reduce hair growth. I have suffered for two long and dont have the funds or time to go and get professional treatments so was wondering if anyone has used in home machines and if they are any good. I have olive skin with dark hair. Any suggestions/ advise is very appreciated.

  • i prefer my karmin ipl hair removal

  • I have wanted to try it but as others have said we need to be very careful as it may lighten the hair and not remove it then we won’t get rid of it. I am considering getting laser done professionally. At least you know it will work!! I guess we get what we pay for!

  • I have seen the home IPL machines advertised but before you go purchasing one I would get a free consultation a beautician or laser clinic to see if you are a suitable candidate. IPL works best on dark hair & light skin. Try purchasing a Groupon/Scoopon which always has IPL at cheap prices to treat an area first. IPL was a waste of money for me as my hair wasn’t dark enough whereas laser was great-No more hair!

  • I have never heard of the in home treatment, but only the professional ones, they remove it in about 10 sessions and the hair doesn’t grow again. Just you have to find a good professional.

  • I would be interested in hearing from people who have used at home systems too. I have had laser hair removal. Prices can vary and you need to go to a properly trained operator with up to date machines. Look for sales, like 5 sessions for a reduced price etc.(maybe on Groupon) It is definitely worth it. I like you, struggled with different hair removal techniques for years. Laser is the best, it does work, and I wish I had discovered it years ago. Good luck, I hope you can do it.

  • While it’s not a laser home hair removal device I have successfully and permanently removed excess hair with a Pearl Hair Remover (I have dark hair and a fair complexion) not all women have had success with this method however. I have purchased a laser home hair removal device for a lady who has reported it’s successful for her, she has light brown hair and a light olive complexion. But, it’s important that one follows the instructions implicitly.

  • If you are really concerned about excessive hair it might be worth chatting to your GP. There are lots of different reasons for hair growth and they may be able to suggest a remedy that might be best for you. Good Luck! I’ve pretty much tried most things. I do have some fine hair the sides of my face which I hate but I’ve been told that its hormonal hair and best not to touch or it can darken which would be my worst fear.

  • I have never heard of the in home treatment, and I don’t remove hair as it’s light color and I don’t see the point of removing them anyways.

  • I haven’t heard of in home ones but only the professional ones, my sister got her hair removed in unwanted places and it took about 8 sessions and its finished

  • I had a couple of sessions of IPL around 5yrs ago but stopped due to moving to another area. It was definitely working and they said it would be up to 8 sessions for it to all be gone permanently. A beautician friend had laser, it was permanent and it was also very costly. You get what you pay for. If you get cheap laser treatments you will be getting an inferior treatment with cheaper machines. The problem with this is instead of removing your hair they can just lighten it permanently. If you have permanently lightened hair it won’t absorb the light of good treatments and you’re going to be stuck with the hair forever unless they come up with technology that will remove blond hair. The best places to have permanent hair removal would be cosmetic institutes and the like that employ cosmetic surgeons and other professionals rather than your local salon or chain laser hair removal store.

  • Have never heard of at home DIY treatments for what I understand is cosmetic surgery. I think it might be worth researching this a little more since IPL is apparently way different to laser and not so good for darker skin either http://victoriancosmetic.com.au/the-difference-between-laser-hair-removal-ipl/ .. sounds like it would leave lighter pigmented areas? I’d try all the creams first! And probably ask GP / naturalpath for advice too and/or embrace it!

  • I have been getting laser done professionally and I paid for it in advance when it was on special at laser clinic. It only cost $9 a session for underarms. I’m really happy with the results so far.

  • Embrace the hair – keeps you warm in winter hehehehe
