Hello!

Any recommendations on what I can use for my 5 month old who has eczema on his chest and tummy? I would like something that I can use during the hot and cold days in Melbourne and also use it during humid tropical weather when I go on holiday. Thank you for your help!

  • QV cream and wash worked for my son, and when he was really bad and a little older, we had to get the prescribed ointment. Hey also look at your washing powder, it may be having a reaction. my son couldn’t cope with wool against his skin either

  • Search Itchy Baby Co in google and it will lead you to their site. They only sell 3 types of bath product – all natural and I found it helped. its a baby bath soak. =)

  • A friend of mine had a similar problem with her baby. Her baby only had eczema on one part of her body – it can’t remember whether it was her front or back. She changed to 100% cotton clothing.
If you use singlets or Tshirts ensure they are cotton – not polyester cotton or other synthetic fibres at all. The stitching on them may be synthetic but that is unavoidable. Is it possible she gets more cleanser of whatever you are using to bath her with on her chest & tummy? You may need to monitor the amount you use, or perhaps change brands. Some have different % of “ingredients” in them. You could also have the same issue with sunscreens when your baby when she is older. I know a person who is very sensitive to sunscreens, so much so that each time they need to buy more they take the packaging to compare ingredients even to the % as that has dire effects. Nasty rash that is so red and sore that she can’t stay outside until it heals.

  • Creams such as QV or Dermaveen can help. I would also look at his diet. Sometimes eliminating certain foods can help clear it up a little too. Also, I’ve just learnt this one, salt water helps too. I have a friend who’s son suffers badly from eczema, he has a day at the beach, and it’s nearly gone!

  • there are so many questions about this on the site so you can see answers on other posts if you like. physiogel is my suggestion

  • We got some really nice products from the Sydney Essential Toddler and Baby Show, the brand is “tri nature” and its a soothing Lotion – Chamomile and Lavender – Delicate skin and the lady said its great for eczema and so far I have been using it for myself and my daughters and we already have seen good results

  • Have you read the reviews for the dermaveen soap free wash? Some people found it was great on their eczema.

  • We have used Qv cream to help settle the itch along with the cream from the doctors. Also in warmer weather try not to wear clothes while inside the house. I have found this really helps the little ones skin while the cream in freshly put on their skin.

  • I know coconut oil helps against eczema. You could ask your doctor to confirm you can use it with a baby.
