Hello!

I have my sister, my brother-in-law and my two nephews coming down from Nth Queensland to Melbourne and in total I’m going to have 5 kids under my roof. This is the first Christmas I have spent with my nephews, on Christmas Eve we’re going to the Myer windows and we’re going to see Santa Claus and going on the Christmas train and the Mile school in the city. Are there any other ideas we could do during the Christmas week my sister and her family will only be down here for a week. Any ideas for Christmas day also?

  • Outdoor activities like playing under sprinklers, going to parks or the beach. Visiting museums, art galleries. Indoor they can play board games, watch movies, make craft items.

  • Just driving around locally to look at decorated houses can be fun.

  • Do you have family games such as Twister or Monopoly for the indoors. That is always fun and never gets out of fashion .

  • Pool/water parks are good too; especially if the weather is warm.

  • Art galleries and museums are always fun; usually they have children’s activities and special hands on exhibits. Importantly a coffee shop for the adults too! :)

  • The zoo would be a great day for all ages. A picnic in the Botanic Gardens or a drive to the Dandenongs for a picnic would be fun too.

  • Going to the Christmas carols would be fun I think carols in the domain are in Melbourne.

  • Take the train down to Williamstown or Altona and have a picnic at the beach or by the Yarra then walk around the Botanical Gardens.

  • If you check with your council information centre you might find out about some free attractions. Some shopping centres have free child friendly events. Also check your free “local” paper. There is usually events listed, some of them free or cost effective.

  • The Melbourne Zoo is amazing. It will take up the whole day and there are usually extra activities during the holidays. Be sure to take a picnic lunch to eat on the lawn to save $$.
