Hello!

I have a fussy eater. Am after some nutritious meals for them to try.

  • Try meals that give them small portions or let them pick and choose – spring rolls, smorgasboard platters, mini pies or sausage rolls, mini quiches, for example.

  • 1. Involve them in the preparation – even if its just spreading something healthy on a piece of toast with their fingers, choosing from different pots; put some healthy options of grated vegetables etc. in little pots and let them choose what to sprinkle on their plates or in soups and 2. make sure they are HUNGRY getting enough activity during the day, and 3. Also that they are not getting too many calories from flavoured milks, sugary drinks, fruit juice packs etc. If they are already beyond their calorie intake for the day with just the drinks they wont want much else at all.

  • there’s quite a few recipe ideas on this site – with hidden veg,,, and fruit icypoles are awesome too

  • Hiding veges in cakes is a great way to get them to eat some veg. Carrot cake, zucchini cake, pumpkin cake and chocolate beetroot cake is my favorite. Grating veges into things like spaghetti bol works well too. Good luck☺

  • We are having a lot of success lately with fried rice (less fried and more steamed) it’s amazing the amount of vegetables you can for in and you can even vary the meat quite a lot too from beef strips to chicken, pork or even flaked fish!

  • Thanks for sharing your tips, KYMICHELLE. I will give your suggestions a try for my fussy eater.

  • My fussy eater is loving tacos and wraps. I put a platter in the middle of the table with lettuce, tomato , cheese, grated carrot, cucumber, capsicum etc and let them help themselves. Sometimes I make the wraps for them and smuggle a little bit of what she wouldn’t usually eat into it too!

Spag bol with hidden veggies is a hit here and my two fussiest love baked beans so I add a little mince and a few easy to hide veggies and they eat it.

Muffins with added veggies – I’ve been known to make banana and zucchini muffins – anything to get some veggies in! All 3 of my children also like cheesy muffins with tiny pieces of ham and corn that they often don’t notice!
