Hello!

I’ve been seeing more and more direct sales companies about, and I was wanting to hear from anyone involved directly and what their experience was, good or bad. The companies I’ve seen are younique, itworks, Avon, Nutrimetics, Tupperware. So experience with those would be greatly appreciated :)

  • I’ve never done this, but friends have. It seems to rely heavily on pressuring friends and family to buy.

  • This direct sales opportunity fits into the busiest lifestyle. No inventory. Products are developed by the doctors, customers buy them from your website & they ship straight from the warehouse.

  • My cousins always had Tupperware parties in the 90’s… Dunno if plastic is so hip now. There is a lingerie brand (expensive) Intimo, and there is also a candle mob but cannot remember the name. I respect they can make you money, or get you freebies, but as a friend and family member of those that have lots of parties, I am not a fan…. I think they are an abuse of friendship

  • Direct sales can be okay if that’s what you want or they can be difficult.

  • Sorry, I didn’t mean to say a *new* company, it has been around for about 5 years in America, but is only just launching in Australia!

  • Besides buying products from friends I haven’t yet directly been involved with any direct sales companies, BUT there is a new company launching in Australia very soon which I am very excited about and I am going to be a consultant for them. To join at the launch phase is a very unique opportunity. Let me know if you’d be interested in learning more =)

  • So long as you don’t feel pressured they’re ok…some people can get very aggressive if you say you don’t want to buy something so be warned! If you’re into social gatherings, parties involving direct selling can be fun, otherwise buying direct is still good. Done both and now just buy direct if I really want an item. Can be a relationship breaker though with pushy sellers.

  • I have only had good experiences with people that do direct selling of party plans.

  • My mum used to sell nutrimetics! I myself am not interested in selling but I think it depends what sort of person you are and if you are good at selling…

  • Interesting answers. I have been to these parties and bought products, but no direct selling.

  • yes well it does rely on a lot of word of mouth

  • I find alot of these places are just selling stuff you would never buy if it wasn’t pushed onto.

  • I became a Postie fashion consultant 6 months after I retired from nursing. I used to love doing parties and holding them myself for friends etc. I used to sell about 5k a month on average which was good and earnt a bit of commission. It helped with the household budget and I loved meeting new people. I had a few ladies that did not like parties but they came to my house and used to order a lot from me direct. I always made it into a party on paper so they got all the benefits of holding a party. I do not do many parties now as my eyes are terrible at night!. I am still a Postie lady and am entering my 12th year and still enjoy it.

  • I have done pet product party plan. I was never pushy , especially when it came to trying to get more parties, and I refused to travel more than an hour after I went to one an hour and a half away and only 2 people turned up instead of 7 and I sold one $20 item

  • My mum sells Avon, she started to earn a little extra cash, was never pushy on customers etc. She used to have an area she walked and popped the books into houses and picked them up, sold so much one year she won an award. Recently she gave up her area and only sells to a few people, still makes a little but not much. She loves Avon they are a great company, sometimes the area reps they choose though leave a lot to be desired.

I had a friend who took up Tupperware to assist the family, she became really pushy, she told me it was because they really push you to get a certain amount of sales. When I got married she seemed to want to help and asked to throw a bridal shower, it ended up being a Tupperware thing which was tacky and my friends felt obliged to buy, she kept pushing me not long after for my friends to organise parties and so I cut her off and do not talk to her anymore.

My other friend sells Nutrimetics, they seem awesome as they let you do your own thing, her sister in law has made a little business out of it but she just sells to friends and does not really do parties.
