Hello!

Do you think cravings are real? I had them with all six children. My daughter is pregnant now and feeling like cucumbers. Some say they are all in the mind. What do you think?

  • No it is real I remember I wanted Chicken chips and salad and Watermelon couldn’t get enough. Plus it was different with what I wanted with each one and couldn’t get enough of whatever it was.

  • Definitely real so many factors affecting them though. I craved cinnamon in my first pregnancy but not my second.

  • I didn’t really crave anything in particular, so I don’t know if they are real.

  • I think they are. I craved chocolate milkshakes with my 1st. One of the few things that didn’t make throw up.

  • I think they’re exaggerated when pregnant and that we have cravings all the time. I know I do and I haven’t been pregnant for years. Yesterday, I felt like choc chip bics, so I got some :)

  • I didnt get any and i was so disappointed! All i wanted was weird cravings :) instead i had to live on fruit as it was the only thing to stay down while i had morning sickness.

  • Cucumbers repeat on me so i dont think it would be good for morning sickness but everyones different

  • reckon so, i seemed to crave burnt toast and sweetcorn lol.

  • My daughter felt craving for cucumbers the other night after shops were shut. She sent her young sister into the pizza shop. She explained the situation of pregnancy cravings and the pizza shop knew it was her sister so they gave it free. Not many shops like this around

  • Oh indeed, yes! In think,it is our body letting us know we need something from what we crave. It happens, even if you have to throw it up as soon as it is down!

  • So true. My GP said to just go with the Maccas as it was my body’s way of telling me I needed fat, etc. Not something I would normally agree with but I was really sick with my first baby throughout the entire pregnancy and lost a lot of weight.

  • I believe most cravings are your bodies way of telling you that you are lacking in something you need!

  • I believe they are very real.
With third I was really aware of what was going on. My cravings would change from time to time and I found that whatever I was craving contained the types if nutrients that were required for the developing foetus at that stage of the pregnancy.
Eg: I started really craving tuna which is high in protein at the same time that a foetus’s brain is usually developing. I was craving milk at the stage the foetus’s bones were forming and hardening. Etc… I’m certain its the way the body obtains what it needs for the developing baby.

  • I craved cucumbers with my second little one. I also craved ham and bacon. Normally I can’t stand ham or bacon.
With my first I craved Big Macs and Frozen Coke. Strangest craving ever seeing I hate McDonalds, hate cold drinks, and hate coke.
I also crave soft serve ice cream at the start of each pregnancy. I never like it any other time. It’s how I know I am pregnant.

  • My sister-in-law had cravings for Turkish Delight.
My niece had craving for different flavours of tea.
Cucumber might give her heartburn. She will soon know if it does. Apparently seeds cause the problem. Celery might be better – no seeds.
Another had cravings for milk which has plenty of calcium in it – until she suddenly couldn’t stand the sight of it.
