Hello!

I’m looking to work from home, does anyone know if you can do any secretarial type roles from home and how I could go about it?

  • There might be data entry type jobs, but I’m not sure where you’d look for them.

  • I know that you can work from home typing up court transcripts. You’d have to contact your local courthouse to find out who to contact.

  • I am sure there are some in existence. There should be some sort of employment agency near you. Contact them for some information. Also, local TAFEs would know too, as they do the courses for them

  • I’ve heard of this but never known of anyone that has got a real job. Good luck with your hunt

  • There are some virtual assistant websites out there that help find work for at home PA’s and administration assistants… I’m on the hunt myself to have something whilst I’m on maternity leave next year to help us keep some money coming in once my parental leave runs out… you can also look on seek.com.au as they also sometimes have work from home jobs advertised.

  • Often Barristers hire typists who work from home so you could try contacting a few barristers chambers.

  • There is something called ozscribe for medical terminolgy.

  • you could approach companies and ask if they need any work doing as many need things typed up like thick contracts / documents and you dont need to be in the office to do this. also typing up CV’s or theasus for people or helping someone who is writing a book they always need typists to help. good luck.

  • From experience I can tell you once you wade through the rubbish there are many genuinely great jobs up for offer on Freelancer.com. I have worked with some wonderful employers there, you just have to use common sense, I usually just stick to Australian employers (although the exchange rate can be a great bonus!)

  • I’ve heard secretary.com.au is a scam. A friend “got a job” there & before she started she did some research on the company, turns out there were heaps of people claiming on doing all this work for them & not being paid for it.

  • There are a lot of people working as virtual PAs these days, and doing all sorts of secretarial work from home, so I disagree with the previous poster. You could get an ABN and start spreading the word online that you are available – maybe set up your own website listing what tasks you can complete and what your rates are.

If you search for transcription work, I know there are websites asking for people to do transcriptions of audio files, if you are a reasonably fast typer. Only issue is I don’t know if the money they pay is that great!

    Good luck.

  • How can you do secretarial work from home? You need to be able to work closely with your boss, pass on verbal messages etc. You can’t just email a person and say go to ……office please. The person my not watch their computer screen checking for emails.
