Hello!

Our baby is more intent on pulling himself up on furniture. A few years ago I overhead a Mum being taught to crawl first as it strengthen their back muscles

  • My grandson, 13 months old just went from sitting to standing up & walking! No crawling or pulling himself up on furniture ????

  • 5/6 even 7mths is pretty normal, sometimes they take a little longer- depends on the baby. You should encourage crawling if you can as going straight to walking can make them quite unco and they fall over a lot. I’ve seen it.

  • Dont force this motion let them learn in their own course they’re bones need to be strong enough if anything you want to prevent then from walking once they do you will have them walking all over the house and be for ever chasing them

  • Yes as the other answer every bub is different and some skip crawling all together. As for strengthening muscles, bubs will do this in many ways. Sitting, rolling, reaching and grabbing toys, standing in a walker or play saucer……all babies do things in their own time and way. If you have concerns about not crawling or weak muscles then definitely see your GP, pead or child health nurse. But otherwise just wait and see how your bub develops.

  • Your official response will be about 6-10 months but every baby is different, some never crawl either skipping it completely or prefer to roll. The benefits from crawling come from the way it helps strengthen muscles they will use for standing which is an advantage but not damaging if they end up skipping it. If you are concerned a talk with your maternal health nurse might help further.
