My grandson drinks S26 toddler formula and my wife got some Mamia from Aldi formula. When we wanted him to drink the Mamia formula he screws up his nose and turns his head away. I said try 50/50 but still no go. Why is he not liking Mamia but loves S26?

Ask your question

  • There must be something in the Mamia formula that is not agreeing with your baby. Follow your baby’s lead and give him the formula he likes.

  • Sounds like a taste preference or could just be it’s different to what he’s used to.

  • I’m guessing it’s a taste thing. The 2 formulas obviously taste different. Maybe he’ll adapt with time, maybe he won’t

  • Both my children loved S26 and bought them up on it as I could not breast feed and was not enough for them . I was recommended this brand so I would pop down to your childhood clinic to discuss this. Once they are able to blend in solids their diets can be topped up with the formula. It sounds like he might like the taste because kids are very smart these days , if it doesn’t appeal to them they won’t eat or drink it. Once they reach a year old they should be drinking fresh milk. Anyway I was taught this 22 years ago when my daughter was born so hopefully some basics still remain the same . Good luck.

  • I would say your grandsom has grown used to S26 and does not like taste of other product. Quite simple really and not neccesary that second formula is no good.. just new. Is there any reason other than you have bought Mamia. You ould try it in conjunction with S26.Otherwise give one he chooses S26.

  • Just like you would have taste preference to different drinks, your grandson does too. Babies shouldn’t switch between formulas from day to day so better to stick with the one brand that he likes

  • YOU HAVE ANSWERED YOUR QUESTION YOURSELF IN THAT HE IS USED TO AND LIKES S26 NOT
MAMIA.iT MAY BE BECAUSE HE DOES NOT LIKE IT OR IS JUST NOT USED TO IT. YOU DO NOT SAY HOW OLD YOUR GRANDSON IS BUT THERE COMES A TIME WHEN REAL FOOD,VEG AND MILK, HEALTHY FOODS TO WEAN HIM OF S26. HOPE THIS HELPS i AM A GRANDMUM TOO AND CAN REMEMBER MY OWN CHILDREN NOT WANTING CERTAIN TINGS BUT LATER THEY LOVED THEM. wE ALL HAVE THINGS WE DO NOT LIKE TO EAT OR DRINK

  • I always used S26 gold for my youngest, she was used to it, did well on it and it’s a good enough brand. Kids have their taste preferences as we all do. If you really want to change her on a different formula I would start mixing it with a higher amount of her preferred brand and then gradually decrease this. Start with 80% S26 and 20% Mamia for example. Success !

  • Is there a specific reason you gave him a different formula to the one his parents give him? If my parents had done that without asking first, you better believe I’d be furious. What if that new formula had something he had a reaction to?
And to answer your question, children are very particular about food and drink. Some families can go through 5 different brands of formula before the baby finds one they like.

  • He does not like the taste. He can learn to experience different tastes and textures and some he will like others he wont. Never try to ouch a child to eat or drink something they dislike, however do reintroduce after a time. Also in the presence of other children, he may be more inclined to try what others are having. It is okay not to like something. Many adults are very fussy about likes and dislikes. If a child is offered a variety of healthy foods and drinks to chose from , they will thrive.

  • Might just be a taste preference. Just like adults have certain preferences for different brands. Coffee is a big one that people are very one eyed about and toddlers are no different with their likes and dislikes.

  • Some children just like the taste of certain drinks. My grand daughter would only drink one type of formula, some did not agree with her. My son her father never took to formula and I had to make one up as directed by the baby nurse.
