Is canned Tuna and salmon good for a 9 month old? Can I give my 9 month old canned tuna?

  • Canned light and skipjack tuna are considered safe for babies to eat. Just make sure to limit their total fish intake to two servings per week of low mercury options. All fish that your baby eats should be fully-cooked

  • Definitely. I would go for the tuna in spring water to avoid the salt with brine and the grease with olive oil. And add it gradually, stir a bit through their mashed veggies to start

  • Yes in moderation!

  • Yes, both are ideal and healthy options for a nice month old. I’m sure they’ll love both

  • I would add a little to some mashed veg – it is a strong taste, and gradually add more

  • Yep I give it to my son :)

  • Yup – anything except honey or whole nuts.

But do the allergy testing methods if it’s the first fish you are offering.

    Good luck on the taste!

  • I would want to find out the mercury level in different types of fish.
Also if you are using canned fish use the one containing springwater, not oil or brine.
The ones with brine are very high in salt (brine is basically salt water like the sea) and not many babies can digest oil at that young an age. It could also give them the “runs”.

  • Only once a week or fortnight due to mercury content and something else. (Babies are only supposed to have a certain amount of fish max a fn)

  • You definitely can. You may have to give it a few tries before they actually eat it.

  • Yes, I have given it to my kids, mainly in fish cakes with mashed potatoes as it tones down the strong flavour. I also like using salmon.

  • Yes absolutely! My 6 month old had some today. My health nurse told me they can have anything besides honey or whole nuts. The rest is all good to go! I mixed mine with some avocado.

  • you sure can, most fish can be introduced to a baby from 6 months old just be mindful that fish has quite a strong taste and it may take a few attempts
