Hello!

How can I start getting my 10 month old to sleep without me? I have two kids under 5 and my 10 month old only sleeps with me. In my arms during sleeps and next to me in my arms at night. I mostly breastfeed to sleep. How can I start breaking these habits as I go back to work soon.

  • a lot of people don’t like it, but use a dummy. I had 2 really good sleepers and they both had a dummy. yes it can be difficult to get rid of it later on, but that’s where Santa helps. We told our son that Santa would bring him an extra present if he didn’t use his dummy anymore. Worked a treat!

  • Uh oh, Houston we have a problem. It will be hard, but it can be done. You just need willpower and determination, you’ll get there. Takes time to retrain baby though. I hope it doesn’t take too long and cause too much stress

  • you just have to let him learn to self settle. ive got the baby shusher app. try sleep sence

  • My kids still sleep with me it’s hard but I usually let them lie with me until they fall asleep then put them into their rooms Goodluck hun

  • my kids still slepp with me there 6 and 4 .. :(

  • Are they still sleeping with you or did you manage to break it?

  • how is it going now?

  • Has anything managed to help?

  • If the cot fits next to your bed give that a go and try to gently ease them in once they are asleep.

  • What did you end up doing?

  • you could do the cold turkey and let them sleep in the cot

  • Hope some of the advice has helped

  • You need to try and break the habit of breastfeeding to sleep.

  • Yes as one of the other mums mentioned, Pinky McKays book may help. It is just a matter of re-educating baby but of course we all know this is great in theory and really easy in practices- good luck.

  • Gradually it’s not always easy, I agree starting with the cot nest too you first
