Do any other Mums suffer from Hyperthyroidism (Graves Disease) and have fallen pregnant while on medication?

  • Absolutely — but hyperthyroidism (an overactive thyroid gland) and hypothyroidism (an underactive thyroid gland) can have a negative effect on fertility and make conception more challenging. That’s because both conditions have been linked to irregular menstrual cycles.

    Once you are taking medication (levothyroxine tablets) and your thyroid hormone levels are back to normal your chances of becoming pregnant should improve dramatically. If you are planning a pregnancy you should let your doctor know and ideally have a blood test before you conceive
