Hello!

Hi. A year ago I gave birth to my daughter and broke my tail bone into 3 pieces. It took nearly all this time to start to feel better but still sometimes gives me grief. My question is; have any mums out there experienced this and gone on to give birth naturally again? I’m worried I’ll have to have a Caesarean next time, or if I give birth naturally that I’ll break it again. Any information would be a godsend! Can you give birth naturally after a broken tailbone from birth?

  • Yes you can, but talk about it with your obstetrician. .A tail bone fracture is not that common. You’re more likely to injure your coccyx if your baby is very large or in an odd position, or if you have a narrow pelvis. Additionally, if you have previously suffered from a tailbone injury, you are at greater risk of injuring it again during childbirth.

  • My sister got a broken tail bone with her first pregnancy, her son was 10lb 12.5oz, the next three pregnancies were induced but birthed “naturally” otherwise, she was induced because her babies were enormous

  • Maybe find an experienced doula and have a chat about some different birthing positions?

  • Please let me know what your doc said

  • I’m pretty sure it’s possible but the pain is apparently excruciating :-(

  • What advise did your dr give you? My sister had 2 emergency caesariansand they found her tailbone is twisted and prevented the babies from coming out. Her uterus ruptured with her last baby so I’d get it really thoroughly checked out to make sure it healed properly – its prob fine I’m just a little paranoid

  • I’d be asking a professional or even your midwife they’d be able to tell you what is best for you.

  • I would be talking to my gynae about it

  • Oh gosh, it sounds awful. I have not heard of that happening while giving birth. I assume your doctor would have some good advice on this.

  • How did it go, did you find out?

  • See your doctor they may know, I never had it happen to me but I hope for the best for you.

  • Do see your doctor and get professional advice Sounds painful to me Hope everything works out well for you

  • Wouldn’t the doctor see ur previous experience and elect for a c section. I would imagine they would

  • I don’t know the answer to this but I can tell you after two c sections that they aren’t that bad :). The only thing I didn’t like was that I had to be careful with lifting and stretching for 8 weeks. That was a bit hard seen we were trying to finish renovations.

  • wow this sounds immensely painful!
