Hello!

I feel like all I do is wash up plastic plates, cups and bowls as I don’t like putting them in the dishwasher, even if they say they are dishwasher safe. I’m keen to get something that I can put in the dishwasher without worrying. I’ve read that even melamine breaks down over time. I’ve seen some good options online, but many are only available overseas. Can anyone recommend a good option/brand? Thanks!

  • Maybe stainless steel plates and bowls – they’re hygienic and dishwasher safe.

  • Tempered glassware, stainless steel and Bamboo is in the rise !

  • As long as it says microwave and dishwasher safe , it is trustworthy . If it breaks it means it is worn out and you just discard it . I used plastic most of my life and it has all been good as I read instructions .

  • Isn’t all child eating and drinking utensils for kids plastic free? Isn’t it Australian legal guidelines about it? I’m sure it’s just been in the headlines recently. I don’t have a particular brand name though, sorry

  • I put my melamine in the dishwasher all the time – oops!

  • I don’t know what state you live in. If you have Ikea their childrens bowls and plates are dishwasher safe and also microwave safe. Melamine is not microwave safe. I don’t know if it is dishwasher safe or not.

  • The stainless steel idea sounds good!

  • I get the stuff from the Japanese shops. I dont know if it’s plastic but it certainly cleans a lot easier than a lot of the other kids stuff.

  • yeah just make sure that you change out the plastics every now and then

  • For me it’s Tupperware’s range that are durable, safe and dishwasher safe! My kids love the colours and that cups, spoons etc are made just for their little hands

  • We often use stainless steel camping plates, bowls and cups etc. They are durable, dishwasher safe and child hazard friendly!

  • I was going to also suggest corelle as if it gets broken it breaks into beads that are not sharp unlike other glasswear. There are bamboo plates etc but I’m not sure if these can go into the dishwasher. I’m the same as you I handwash all the plastic, even though it says it’s safe I don’t trust it

  • What about corelle bowls/plates, we have them very durable and dishwasher safe

  • I think if you don’t want to go for china, melamine might be the best option. If you don’t cook with it, then no nasties should leach out.
