Hello!

Now that over the counter cough medicines are no longer an option, I am wondering if any mums have tried and true cough remedies for children under 6 years?

  • A spoon of raw or manuka honey is what we do. In the past I’ve bought cough syrup but didn’t find it effective at all, a waste of money

  • Either some honey for a quick cough relief, or even better, stewed apples really help with coughs.

  • A teaspoon of manuka honey. =) works wonders

  • I get the kids to eat lots of kiwi fruit and blueberries. I also give them Euky bear which is an over the counter cough medicine – it just has honey and eucalyptus in it. I think you have to be over the age of 2 years to have it though.

  • try vicks and warm water, honey and lemon which will soothe throats

  • i wasn’t aware that you couldn’t get them otc any more. wow i hadn’t heard that.

  • I always get advice from the chemist. Vicks rubbed on a chest is always so good for a cold too.

  • OK this is what a lady at work told me her mum used to do. She would mix a spoon of butter and raw honey together and they would eat it and it would ease a cough and sore throat.

  • Vicks, humidifier, if it’s a chesty cough our doc recommended prospan

  • I rub vix on her chest and use a humidifier in her room
