What is far more important is to consider the wider pattern of development for the baby
Were they late to achieve other gross motor milestones such as head control and sitting? (A baby should have developed head control by four months and be sitting independently by nine months.)
What is their social development and communication like compared to other babies of the same age?
Are they demonstrating an interest in toys that other babies of the same age are playing with? Are they using both sides of their body equally?
Skipping crawling alone is certainly not an indicator of future developmental delay, but if it is combined with other concerns in a baby’s development then it is certainly worth talking to your GP about.
No, babies don’t have to crawl. My oldest did all of the normal – sitting up, crawling, pulling herself up on things and then walking. The next one didn’t do anything until 11 months, no crawling, just sitting up and then pulling herself up and walking.
Basic answer- yes. Plenty of kids walk without crawling. One of mine did. And no effect on her development at all. It’s just how some kids are. Just as the many ways babies crawl. Not all crawl arms and legs left/right. U get bottom scooters, crab crawl, scooting and using one arm/leg and all other combinations. As long as your child is developing otherwise normally then there’s nothing to worry about at all.
If worried about coordination then there’s plenty of activities you can do such as ball catching/kicking, hopping, jumping etc. but unless you have a particular concern then I wouldn’t worry.
Its not good for development of their brain to skip crawling if they do try to get them doing exercises on hands and knees as it promotes left and right brain development
