  • I never took my baby to get professional photos – it really wasn’t that popular at the time. Now it appears that everyone has to show off their baby with fancy cards and things.

  • No it’s so expensive, we just made our own photo’s

  • Nope

  • I had professional photos gifted for my first mother’s day and they are beautiful and something I will always cherish. However, professional photos can be expensive and home ones can be just as nice.

  • I bought a blanket and some props from kmart and have been doing our own baby photos every month for a fraction of the cost! we were going to get them down but my husband said that they photoshop them and what not and we wanted to see our daughter how she actually is, not one mood on one day edited to perfection

  • I only took my own photos with my kids. My grandson was born earlier this year and they had professional ones done. They are stunning, such a good job. They printed out each photo and then gave a disc with all the photos on so they can be printed out, enlarged over and over

  • I should add that mine were taking by a friend at her studio at her house. I was able to take as long as we needed to, breastfeed whenever and time the photos perfectly for when he had fallen into a deep sleep. I also went in my pjs. I’m not sure how I’d feel about the ones at shops. And studio ones could be hard if you have to go there at a set time and only have a short time to get them done. Better when you find the ladies that work from home :)

  • I loooove my professional photos!!! We got an amasing one of bub snuggling his teddy from my mum to give her for Christmas and another of him in a basket from his great great grandma to give as a gift to his great gran and I couldn’t have got him so peaceful and the photo so beautiful myself. I’m not into props or anything, ours were all pretty natural apart from that, there’s one where he is resting his chin on his hands looking forward and I never would have got that myself and it’s my favourite! They just capture that newborn look so well!

  • Like the idea of sourcing a local photographer.

  • I did but my youngest was so scared of the photographer I think I struggled to find one good photo at the end. Not worth the bother IMO.

  • I just did and the quotes were so over priced some newborn photographers wanted $250 per photo. I know its a hard job but there has to be some line. I gave in and got some shots done for my daughter but am still waiting on them.

  • Would never admit it to my mother who bugged me to do professional shots, but I regret not doing it. I was adamant it was a waste of money and could come up with something using my own camera… that didn’t happen.

  • We have not! I have taken a few photos of my own… Sometimes I look at professional ones and wish I did! Have a look on Pinterest they have link to good sites of how take your own!

  • Tried professional when on special! But have been disappointed with both home efforts and studio sittings. They both seem unnatural most of the time. I think taking lots of photos in everyday situations is the best, then going through them you can find some really lovely ones. You have to be prepared to crop round subjects to get a good composition. Also if you know any photo editing tricks you can blur backgrounds etc. to turn a regular snap into something quite special.

  • Good answers mums – will look for some nice photo albums too.
