Hello!

I am always interested in the people that win and the messages and awareness they give to the community.

  • Yes they really dont pick the right ones for Australian of the Year would rather see it go to someone that has done so much for their field like Research or Doctors or even Nurses Teachers

  • I don’t really hear of or see the recipients after they’ve been nominated, so it’s not something I think about.

  • I agree with the previous mum’s answer – mum101628. I would like to see someone with a low or no profile win this award and in a field that we do not usually hear about in the media and news. We all get educated when we learn about new people and their work in the community and it may just inspire others to become involved in community work and give them inspiration to seek out their own challenges and ideas. I like Australians of the year that work tirelessly during their year and raise awareness for their cause. I heard Rosie Batty speak and her words, story and information moved not only me but an entire audience of people. It provoked conversation and action amongst these people.

  • Yes – I would like to see somebody win this award who isn’t a sportsman or already a celebrity of sorts. There must be thousands out there who benefit their community – scouting/girl guiding people who help the young, people who quietly look after and help the elderly, those who go out of their way to help the homeless, those who help the needy.
Perhaps Brendan Nottle from the Salvation Army, perhaps a doctor who has proved a new cure, scientists and researchers do so much for humanity and don’t often get recognised.
