Hello!

In our office at work, there is no running hot water in our kitchenette. Some people think we should boil the kettle to wash up, others think it’s OK if you use an anti-bacterial dishwashing liquid. What do other mums think? It just doesn’t feel clean with cold water.

  • Use dishwashing liquid and some water boiled from kettle, so long it’s not to hot that it will burn you.

  • I personally would feel that you’d need hot water.

  • After you wash the dishes you can fill the sink with a water and bleach solution. That will kill bugs.

  • I am in the boiling the kettle camp!

  • Hot water and dish liquid for sure to remove grease and debris.

  • Depends – what was on the plate and how long you clean it for. Oil is hard to remove without hot water but not impossible.

  • I think generally yes, but at work ususally people don’t worry too much I think as a lot of time people bring their own mugs etc

  • It needs to be hot! That’s a bit grose that people wash in cold – things stay oily

  • I agree it doesn’t feel clean with just cold water.
My mother often does my dishes with cold water & I am forever rewashing when she leaves.
I’m not sure if it really does make a difference or if I am just fussy but I can notice a difference when dishes are washed in hot water & I do prefer it.
Maybe but up a note above the sink asking all employees to please wash the dishes using the kettle water & provide disposable gloves for those who do not like putting their hands in hot water?
    Best of luck!

  • Hell yeah you need hot water to wash hygienic ally. Not only that, you need it to remove grease effectively

  • Hotter the better I think! There are some really interesting comments on this!

  • It depends how dirty the dishes are and hot water is always preferred! Soak in hot water from the kettle.

  • Cold water doesn’t dissolve any greasy residues properly.

  • no I wouldn’t think it would feel clean either but I guess it should be ok but if it was me I would take my dishes home once or twice a week and wash them properly.

  • I think as long as it is disinfecting your dishes, then it should be fine!
