Hello!

Having just read about donating flowers for the elderly for Seniors Week, I started thinking I should really volunteer somewhere. Mum used to do meals on wheels when we were kids, and I have volunteered for Lifelink (like Lifeline) in the past after doing a course. I donate blood and feel great that I can ‘give’ that way, but being time poor with 3 kids, I want something I can do when I have time. Do any of you volunteer? I was wondering if anyone reads to the elderly or similar?

  • I volunteer with my daughters school, unfortunately no time to do what I would like. Your idea sounds very rewarding.

  • My daughter used to work in an aged care facility and they had regular volunteers to help out

  • I volunteered three days per week for a number of years at my daughter’s school canteen. I haven’t volunteered as much in more recent years, but I’d like to do something, just not sure what.

  • no i haven’t. i have only donated money or items.

  • I haven’t got around to volunteering yet. I have knitted baby clothes for the premmie babies and donated to the hospitals. I’ve also donated knitted penguin jumpers for those penguins affected by oil spills. I often donate items for raffles and fundraisers too

  • Contact a Seniors Association and they will be able to advise you of how you can volunteer. Good on you too – so important to help in the community.

  • I participate in volunteering and my favourite is to bake and cook for charity morning tea days.
