Hello!

Has anyone else noticed that BigW has changed in the last few years in the type of clothing stocked? For me BigW has gone from the ‘go to’ shop (when you want cheap, basic, plain style clothing, T-shirts, shorts, track pants etc.) to being rather more expensive, especially in the children’s clothing (with more fancy designs that often aren’t suitable for basic play wear). I wonder if the changes are connected to ethically sourcing their clothing (probably not), or whether they are just trying to target a different audience?

  • I use to love Big W but have noticed a big change in their stock and haven’t found a lot suitable for my kids. So now I go to Kmart.

  • Ive noticed they have changed, especially with the addition of the party section

  • I used to get clothes from kmart, but now the kids are getting older, I do find some clothes that are not suitable to my kids age.. I absolutely hate skull pictures….dislike girls clothes in big w. boys clothes tends to follow popular charaters like spiderman or superman, just too much going on in the pic…im going over to target clothes but have trouble with pants as my son doesn’t have skinny legs so I have to go over to kmart or best n less for it. but I do agree big w have changed and I haven’t been there for a while for that reason.

  • i haven’t noticed any difference but don’t go there constantly.

  • Yes, Definitely changed and not sure if this is got to do with K-Marts new look

  • yes definitely. I now shop at target as they have a cheaper option and i haven’t had any problems with shrinking or fading.

  • I love the new Big W range, especially the Lee Cooper gear. But yes, it is more expensive. I use KMart for my staples or the op shop for kindy wear.

  • I’ve been told that BigW managers have no choices in the stock they hold. They are just sent it from some central office. So I think it is a national thing. K-mart is often more suitable for a wider range of basic clothing. BigW have also stopped doing cheap scrapbook refills and other products.

  • Yes I have noticed it too

  • Not really. I think it’s still the same.

  • Ive stopped going to Big w for kids clothing. It’s either expensive, inpracticle ‘designer’ gear that falls apart anyway or cheap looking clothes that dont suit little kids (and im not a prude when it comes to clothes). They just look tacky. Everyday play clothes i get from Kmart or Target and if Cotton On Kids have a sale i stock up – simple designs, wear well and are great for everyday play clothes as well as dressing up a little. Plus theyre priced very reasonably.

  • I would agree with you, we have started using kamrt for basic go to cloths

  • I think they’ve tried to get a little bit fancy too by getting designers into their clothing range

  • I often like their discounts when clothes go on sale.

  • I think they still have both which is nice
