Hello!

My little boy is nearly 4. He carries his toy pony everywhere, hired the DVD and I even brought him some My Little Pony Books. I’m not worried but hubby is, he keeps telling him it’s for girls. What are your thoughts? I’m hoping it’s a quick phase!

  • Kids get into phases.
I saw a little boy pushing a play baby pram at the shops one day and his parents seemed fine with it.
I wouldn’t worry too much about it.

  • It’s a toy he likes to play with. Why should he told he can’t play with it? I can’t think of one valid reason why a child can not play with a toy that brings them joy. Is it hurting anyone else?

  • ok thanks heaps guys. he is really obsessed, watching you tube videos. wants his face painted like a pony, and his birthday cake! do I use that as a theme? still trying to get my head around it.

  • I wouldn’t worry worry about it! he will probably grow out of it, and if not its okay!

  • He’s young, let him go, they don’t know that society has girl and boy things. Let him enjoy his childhood while he can. Hubby will just have to put up with it. It doesn’t mean he’ll grow up gay if that’s worrying hubby

  • My brother played with barbies, I painted his nails and played with dolls. I played with a tonka truck, mecano and duplo. There is nothing wrong with playing with a variety of toys. We are both married with children and have great imagination. Our children are playing with toys that are often gender specific but it’s all for fun and games

  • of. My little pony is actually a calm and friendly show, at least hes not growing up wanting to watch violent shows. My brother used to watch these when we were younger and was very agressive towards me and sometimes my brother. He would hit and fight us, telling us to die. But since he started watching my little pony he has been so calm and a better brother. him and even 20 year olds are part of an online group that they call “Brony”
U wouldnt think much of a girl into ninja turtles. So dont be ashamed of what society things is a boy toy only and a girl toy only.
And children go throw phases at age by the way. He might get sick of it he might not.
But dont forget as parents ur supposed to suport ur child decisions.

  • Before WW2 – pink was for boys and powder blue was for girls – blue because it was like the virgin marys robes if I remember right.

When WW2 began, mens work clothes were blue and it stayed that way for some reason.

Also, boys wore dresses as babies.

Google it if he needs convincing. That’ll show him.

  • Big deal, he likes to play with horses. When my son was younger he used to play with all his sister’s dolls just so he could be with her.

  • I wouldn’t worry about it, my 3 year old boy likes my little pony too. Little kids don’t have the same ideas of what’s for boys & girls, that’s something they learn in society (whether these ideas are correct or not). I figure as long as they’re happy and not hurting anyone, who cares what toys they play with.

  • don’t worry about it! he will probably grow out of it. Lol did you know that there are people that call themselves “bronies” these are adult men who love my little pony. Just normal people who like ponies. It is probably better than having him run around playing army men and being violent and kicking you. Get lots of photos because you can show him when he is older lol

  • I say dont worry at all. Its perfectly normal! My husband does the same with my toddler son – he loves glitter, necklaces, tiaras and handbags. Oh and shoes. Hes a shoe addict! I dont mind at all – we go out with him wearing want he wants to wear as he’s just a little boy and i dont see the point of making him cry taking them off just to go to the shops. My hubby thinks its not normal and tells me to stop it – but its not me, its my son. And its a phase. He has an older sister but regardless, it wouldnt bother me. So long as he is happy thats the main thing. And as ive learnt – kids fads and phases and obsessions change quickly so dont stress and enjoy your son – theyre not little for long!

  • It’s absolutely positivity alright for him to love his ponies, as my boys were growing up I brought them dolls, picnic sets , tea sets as I’m of the belief that it teaches them so play and share all sorts of toys

  • Saying its only for girls is like saying thomas the tank is only for boys and my daughter just loves him. Dont worry it good for boys and girls to like boy or girl things it will help them make friends easier in the future at kinder.
