Hello!

I’m doing some baby led weaning and need ideas for food on the go for my 6mth old? Do you have any suggestions?

  • Soft cooked veggies

  • We pretty much did whatever I was eating unless it obviously posed a serious choking hazard. But soft veges, my kids loved to gum on things like lamp chops and the like.

  • I agree that bread is a good one because they can gum on it really well. We also made a range of sandwiches, toast for breakfast and some tasty little vegetable patties. There is a website called One-handed Chef which has some really delicious recipes for all ages, she has some great ones for that age and I made her risotto balls once and everyone in the house was jealous that they were for the baby and not them.

  • Anything that you are eating ie if you have a sandwich a bit of the bread, my daughter liked vegemite sandwiches, milk arrowroot biscuits and baby biscuits. I tried steamed veg but had no success. Meatballs (homemade and full if veg) worked for us. Annabel karmel has a website with free recipes, there’s some on this site, huggies, heinz and coles also. My understanding of blw is to still have purees? My friend gives her daughter veg soup/stew in a mini thermos

  • I have just started our 7 month old on BLW and came across a website from another Aussie mum who has many recipes and advice. It’s called mylovelylittlelunchbox.com. So far, I have made Carot Cake Scones, Banana Blueberry Loaf and Fritters. All have turned out beautifully and sitting in the freezer.

  • I haven’t done BLW but my friend has and she was giving her baby softened carrot sticks and cucumber I think that they could chew.
