Hello!

Our grandson is turning 5, he has no parents & we are on a pension. Does anybody have any ideas as I do know what to do for him. He loves action heroes, but don’t know where to start ?

  • Maybe a party with a colour theme.

  • My daughter went to a super hero dress up party at that age and loved it. Lots of games in the backyard and party food.

  • Dress up party at home or pirate themed. You can make the food to suit and doesn’t cost a fortune, we did it a couple of years ago and was about $150 all up for 15 kids.

  • My son who is 4 is also obsessed with superheros but he also LOVES lightning mcqueen so we went to kmart&bigW and was soo suprised what they had on offer, being on single parentjng payment i too was on a budget. We were able to get tableclothes with lightning on them for $2 each.. we got disposable cups, plates, napkins for a couple of dollars. We then brought $5 worth of covktail frankgurts, a box of party pies and a box of sausage rolls and that was our food done… We also brought a small ballon kit with a small helium tank fir around $30 and then balloons really made the place pop… plus i went to pintrest and search ‘ideas for 5 yr old parties” and the ideas were amazing..and cheap, all up we spent atound $80 ( and that was munchies an lolly bags aswell)Good luck xx

  • Yes a big area with lots of games like, sack racing with pillow cases! Cool!

  • Lots of great ideas We also printed out superhero pictures on card and did a treasure hunt. Good luck :)

  • Great ideas, sure we will have a great day ,I will try these great ideas.

  • I would suggest a local park with play equipment, for a couple of hours. Some finger food and a cake.

  • I am more happy to help with anything. Let me know if you need a hand, i am more than happy to help in anyway :) Goodluck with everything.

  • Park with play equipment and a bbq then food is easy and can be cheap getting a bulk tray of sausages etc. Homemade cake, you could pick a hero he likes the most and just get a candle of that hero then some streamers and balloons in those colours. A few finger foods.

  • Dont get caught up in thinking that kids parties have to be too involved. You dont have to go for a theme at all…just have a party. Set a time limit of perhaps 2hrs or 2 and a half hours. Set up traditional games like pass the parcel, pin the tail on the donkey ( you could do this with a twist and perhaps make it pin the mask on the super hero). If you get your grandson to put all his gifts unopened on a table until everyone has arrived and then do a gift opening that also takes up some of the time. Then a couple of games. You can also do something like a mintie hunt…that takes up some time and then food time. After a couple of hours its quite long enough for 5yr olds and your little man will be quite happy.
If you have a party in the morning then you will find that the kids wont require as much food as if it was in the afternoon.
Serve plates of chopped up fruit, things like ham sandwiches, party pies, etc…dont have too much food.
Just bake a plain cake and decorate it with 100s and 1000s…there is no need to bake something amazing.
    He will be perfectly happy.

  • Home made cake always tastes best, ice it the colour of his fav action heroes, MY grandson loves ninja turtles so I did a green one, on top I put some ninja turtle figures I bought from a discount shop for 6 dollars. Draw a turtle on a large sheet of paper and then draw and cut out some masks. Cheap way to play pin the mask on the turtle. Lastly make green jelly in cups and that’s turtle juice and ice cup cakes green . If your good at decorating colour some icing blue orange etc and make a mask shape on the cupcakes. This idea can translate to any action hero really.

  • Favourite park play and picnic, with games like sack racing with pillow cases, eating chocolate bars with knife and forks while putting hat gloves scarves…is a great game, save on picnic food with bottle of squash, and get the child to help make his birthday cake day before, take along, most kids are happy with slice of cake, squash, and if really prepared cook pizza, when cold slice into squares for cold pizza and add some crisps…

  • Favourite park, picnic, with lots of games like, sack racing with pillow cases, three legged race, eating chocolate bars with knife and fork games….all pennies

  • Just a small gathering with family and friends.
Get family to bring a plate so you don’t have to provide all the food.
And balloons and streamers are cheap and provide a fun festive atmosphere.
