Hello!

I have noticed recently that I find myself constantly snacking when I have my period. I am not sure why! Does anyone else find they are constantly hungry at this time too?

  • Change in hormones during your cycle can affect heaps of things in your body. For me it’s usually for a few days beforehand – like my body is trying to stock up on energy.


  • Absolutely!!! Anything sweet or salty I crave. I say if it gets you through this time go with it. It’s obviously what your body is asking for.


  • I’m not more hungry, but I definitely crave more sweet things, and have to keep a sharper eye on my consumption to keep it moderate.


  • Oh definitely! Sometimes I even start wondering what the heck is going on – My will power is tragic and then BOOM – The red hits! Then it all seems to make sense, I feel a little better and maybe slightly validated. Haha


  • The cause of cravings may be due to serotonin levels, which are generally lower during PMS. Serotonin is the feel-good chemical in your brain. When levels are low we crave sugars and especially other carbohydrates like potato chips. That’s because the body uses carbs to make serotonin.


  • I don’t think I’m restricted to my periods!!


  • Also; a little indulgence at this time is OK! ;)


  • Yes absolutely and often not very healthy snacks like chocolate and leftovers with lots of carbs like pasta. I don’t know why but I’m sure a few people will have answers to why.

  • No increase, just desire certain foods.


  • I find the 2 days before and the first day of my period I grave sweet things like chocolate but after that nothing changes


  • No l tend not to snack that much!

  • I find I eat non stop. I have to keep busy to keep away from the biscuits!


  • Yes!!! Just prior to them beginning. I can’t get enough carbs (chips, pasta, bread) or sugary foods!
