Hello!

I’m 29 weeks pregnant with my second child and whenever I get stressed or anxious my hands (more my fingers actually) get incredibly itchy and dry, now I look like I have a disease all over my hands because they’re all red dry and scabbed. Can anyone give me some tips as to what this could be and how to treat it? I moisturise daily and wear gloves when washing up.. thanks in advance

  • Stress certainly can provoke the symptoms. It may be good to look at how you cope with stress and seek help when needed.
I had skin problems for many years and found the most important is to moisturize your skin all the time (every time after washing your hands which may be 30x a day). And I would use a nonprescription anti-inflammation and anti-itch products several times a day. Always had Sigmacort at home, but had many prescription creams from the Dermatologist as well.
Try to refrain from rubbing and itching / scratching your skin at all time !

  • My sister in law suffers similar conditions and got diagnosed with Dermatitis . She is a easily stressed person and was told if she doesn’t find a way to cope then all these creams etc won’t do much for her . Good luck .

  • When I’m stressed, my hands are all clammy and sweaty :/ So embarrassing if I have to shake someone’s hand. I often wonder what they think of a woman with sweaty palms, it’s a bit of a butch thing I think, so don’t grip too hard in the hand shake lol

  • Hope you got on top off this and your hands are no long causing you issues

  • Good Luck

  • A barrier type cream would be worth trying

  • It sounds like psoriasis to me, I’d go to the gp & get it checked out. My suggestion would be not to apply creams as they can feed it :)

  • I wouldn’t use a moisturiser and use a barrier cream instead

  • Your hands sound more affected than mine but I found out wearing gloves made my hands worse. Give it a try both ways.

  • I have this problem on and off and I use sorbolene, I find this is fantastic for most things.

  • Maybe apply aloe vets to stop the reddening

  • I get this sometimes from stress or change in season, you are doing the right things but if it is really bad a prescription cream might be the answer.

  • It could be a nerve rash from being anxious, try a cream from the chemist and a barrier cream also

  • maybe a good hand cream would help

  • there are some good comments here
