Hello!

After getting my blood work back the midwives have informed me that my iron levels are significantly lower than they should be, especially during pregnancy. They have recommended that I get an iron infusion at 20 weeks, I was wondering if anyone else has had this done and how long the boost of energy lasts for? Did your iron levels end up going down again a few weeks after the infusion? Any advice on your experiences with this would be really helpful. Thanks!

  • My husband has regular iron infusions. He finds his energy improves significantly two or three days after the infusion, and it will last at least a couple of months.

  • I had two iron tranfusions for iron deficiency anemia. One before pregnancy and one during (26 weeks).
The iron transfusion looks like brown water. The transfusion takes about 3-4 hours.
The first one I had, I felt short of breath for 60 seconds and felt itchy In the arm the transfusion was going into. They gave me some anti histamines and slowed down the transfusion.
The second transfusion I had, they gave me antihistamines before the iron transfusion and I had no problems. (I just reminded them what happened to me the first time).
I had a metallic taste in my mouth for a couple of days afterwards. Probably one week later I felt like a million dollars. You have so much more energy and I felt a lot happier in my mood.
    I would definitely recommend it.

  • I haven’t had this done, nor do I know anyone who has had it done. Good luck with all, mope everything goes well for you both

  • i haven’t even heard of this. i hope that the process goes well for you though.

  • Iron Infusions take a few days before you start to feel the benefits from them. Hopefully your levels will stay up. I know they are given to people with autoimmune diseases including Coelic Disease. Some sufferers don’t absorb the iron rich food they eat.

  • Not a pregnancy iron infusion but after serious illness and have to say the effect was very good and almost immediate. Never needed another one.

  • Hey I had an iron infusion done after my son was born and my levels stayed up. I was anaemic during that pregnancy then this pregnancy my iron levels are perfect and my kids will be 11 months apart
