Hello!

My children and I are in the process of getting passports and also passport photos. My 2 yr old daughter does not like strangers and is photo shy (also a bit stubborn). Does anyone have any tips on getting her passport photo done?

  • Oh gosh not really. The passport people taking the photos would have experience with difficult kids I’m sure and probably have some tips to use

  • Maybe practice at home first so that it wont seem so unusual when you have the proper photo taken.

  • I agree it can be hard. My 5yr old has Down Syndrome and won’t sit still on command or look in the camera. Last year our attempt to have her passport photo taken at the post office failed and l then took her to an official photo shop where they also refund when the photo is denied. It took many attempts and distraction was the key

  • They also do it at office works. My son was shy he surprised me & got the photos done no problems. Or even see a professional photographer that does portraits they can gets kids out of there shell as well

  • I would probably try bribing her in order to have the photo taken.

  • Does she object to you taking photos? If not ask if you are able to take some at the same time. If they only use from above waist height she may be able to sit sideways on your lap. Is there somebody else she knows that can go with you?? I am pretty sure you have to make an appt. at the P.O. so you can warn then when you make it. P.O is probably a better option as somebody there may be able to do the declaration on the back of them straight away.
In Adelaide CBD there used to a couple of special booths you could get them done at.

  • Keep her calm, make it fun and if all else fails, try bribing her :)

  • the staff in post offices are pretty good at getting them to look at the camera – or, take some pics yourself, and see how you go…

  • make it fun, maybe even a little bribery, like a little chocolate afterwards.

  • Great ideas here!

  • The post office staff are great with the kids in getting them to do photos plus its good that she doesn’t laugh or smile as they aren’t meant to do that on a passport photo anyway.
    good luck

  • This is good. They aren’t allowed to smile! Just take her in and tell her that if she wants to go on the plane she has to let them take a photo, or ask if you could do it!

  • just put her in front of the screen and ask if you could take it yoursef

  • Being shy probably sing such a bad thing because he isn’t allowed to smile or open his mouth.

  • I like some of the ideas here!
