How can I remove a urine smell (courtesy of my toddler) from my gorgeous large rug? I’ve tried shampoos, sprays, steam mops, vacuuming, leaving it out in the sun (wanted to leave it out in the rain, but it hasn’t rained much lately). I don’t want a professional carpet clean, as the chance of my toddler reoffending is high…

  • Leave it out under the sun longer and the heat has to be quite high…when temp is bout 35C

  • sprinle bi carb soda in a thick layer and leave as long as possible you may need to repeat quite a few times but it will come out eventually

  • leave it in the sun for a day after wiping it with white vinegar or even vanilla essence

  • Vanish Carpet spray, Then steam mop and leave it out in sun.

  • Soda water and vinegar normally does the job. Otherwise spray your fav perfume on it..

  • yes, vinegar is an odour neutraliser and bi card will help lift smell from deep in the fibres. also, I find with smells. nothing beats rain and sun shine. I find hanging rugs in the rain and then letting it dry in the sun takes out smells. just make sure you have somewhere to hang and dry it so it doesn’t get musty.

  • Bi Carb Soda and vinegar paste – definitely the way.

  • Create a baking soda and water paste. Rub it into the area and apply a little bit of white vinegar over it. Blot this up with towels, and repeat it no more than two times. Follow that with a good rinsing of water, blotting up the moisture. It will smell like vinegar for a short time, but the urine smell should not come back.

  • Check Shannon Lush’s website, I’m sure there’s help there.

  • in the cleaning aisle of the supermarket there is a little bottle called odour remove of something like that, you could try it. my son recently wet his mattress and I sprayed it with vanilla fresh and the smell is gone, so you could try that also!

  • I think you’ve pretty much tried it all, maybe move rug to an other area of house :)
