Hi there MoMs – can you please ask other mums for advice on some good (cheaper) alternatives to joining a gym. I’m new to my area and would like to meet some other mums and get some exercise but don’t really want to do the gym. Thanks for your help.

  • All good comments here, I’d start with local council and local paper. Good luck.

  • Try your local facebook buy sell groups, they are always advertising for fitness and waking groups.

  • I’m not sure if you have a game console but I bought the biggest loser Xbox game and its wonderful.the game set out a workout plan for me to do that I am able to keep up with even though I have 4 under 6 in my house. I was out off by going to the gym as I didn’t have the time and didn’t want to look silly, that’s why doing it in my own home was so much easier for my kids sometimes even join in with me.

  • Try your local council because they have a lot of women’s groups that run fitness groups for mums in parks etc good luck..

  • Check with your local council, as they usually know about any community groups that may have something you could attend. Notice-boards at your local shopping centres or libraries also often have information on classes, as well as local community newspapers.

  • There are mums groups that do group fitness
    some with kids some without
or find spots with free gym equipment around in the parks

There are also heaps of other things you can do.
Use heavy household items such as cans or water bottles as weights, do exercise in space at home. buy wii fit or xbox kinect

  • see if there is mummy fitness groups in your area? i’m on the gold coast and we have yummy mummy fitness and mummylicious fitness- everyone brings bubs in prams, its a great workout, can mingle with other mums etc.

  • look in your local paper for walking / jogging / running groups or fitness classes. your local library may have a notice board too for community groups etc.
