Hello!

My little girl has both her 2 bottom and top teeth and has recently started biting while breast feeding. Does anyone have any tips to get her to stop? It hurts :(

  • Yikes!! Yes, my son did it a couple of times, but the last time he did it, he drew blood. I shot through the roof and yelped like a dog. lol I scared my son, and he never did it again. Nipple Sheilds help atreat for this.

  • Not sure how to stop it. That was the main reason I weaned my second baby at about 8 months. He was biting so hard he drew blood!

  • My milk usually dries up prior to them getting teeth. But the day I stopped feeding my son was the day he clamped down, twisted then yanked his head back! I made him release and went straight to a bottle.
Maybe get her to release and then wait say 5 mins before allowing her to latch again? It might take a while but she may get the message about not biting! Or try teething gel shortly before feeding so her gums aren’t bothering her?

  • O yes i experienced and it was terrible

  • Use a nipple shield for protection

  • Ugh yes!! I used a nipple shield it helped but doesn’t stop them

  • A friend of mine was very fortunate that she was able to breastfeed her babies till they were two years old and had no problems like biting . However my sister in law has problems with her daughter and I think once teeth starts it might be time to slowly wean them off .Perhaps ask your childhood nurse .

  • Really very interesting comments on this!

  • oh yeah it hurts.. I remember this time….

  • I had a biter it was very painful

  • I said no and stopped feeding. I got chomped a few times and daughter thought it was funny, I weaned her after that (she was 13mths)

  • Take her off straight away and say no, it gets worse when the top ones come through

  • nope. mine has just started and pulling. ouch! normally a sign he isn’t that hungry! or I might have poor supply
    ?

  • Make sure you don’t yell or scream although it hurts because they might think its w game!
