Hello!

Please tell me I am not alone. My 13 yo son wets his pants (during the day and night). I don’t know why! We have been to MANY Dr’s (pediatrician, children’s Hosp, councilors, psych, hypno) we have tried every tactic known to mankind (reward chart, money, toys taken, grounding, over praise, no praise, talking, ignoring it, electronics, no electronics, alarm watches, magic pills, prescription pills). I am at the end of the rope :( he is 13!!! in high school and wets his pants 3 times today and just acted as if nothing happened!! Please tell me I am not alone… please tell me this will end!! has ANYONE ELSE BEEN THROUGH THIS? I need to hear from you xx

  • I would try an incontinence nurse.

  • I had a friend in high school who had issues with wetting her pants, she always smelt of urine and was quite embarrassed about it. She went to see a dr and they found she had a problem with her bladder. Maybe it’s a case of finding the right medical professional who will investigate until a solution is found

  • How very frustrating for you! I would keep taking him to doctors until you find one that explores every possibility. I hope you find an answer soon. Hang in there.

  • I’ve not gone through this personally but I did go to school with some girls who did.
    1 was just plain lazy.
The other had a medical condition that took several specialists to diagnose.
Don’t just accept one doctors opinion, try another & another & another until you get some answers. It’s not happening for no reason & there could be something seriously wrong.
Keep up with the counsellors as well as I am pressuming this is quite humiliating for him & could lead to depression.
It may also be something that might just stop all on its own.
It’s so hard to tell but considering his age I would keep going with the medical testing.
For the girl I knew it was a simple procedure & she never had a problem again.
Have you looked into your family history? It could be something genetic?
It could also be psychological but a psychologist should pick up on that. If you don’t feel the job is being done, find another one.
I really hope you get some answers soon, for yourself & for your son.

  • So he’s had tests to rule out any medical issues? Is a really strange for a 13 yo to just be randomly wetting his pants on a daily basis. I’m at a loss. If it was bed wetting, more understandable, but pants wetting…….nah ah

  • Try a new Doctor or Pediatrician ask to be checked for constipation. I read a article recently regarding a teen boy who had been doing this… The Doctor suggested that constipation caused the fullness of the colon pushes on the bladder and by time his body signals the brain the needs to urinate. The stretching of the intestines reduces the nerves functions & diminishes the signals that he needs to pee hence the accidents. Stool softener’s were recommended and more fiber to the diet. Or is there a problem with your child at school ? Bullying in high schools is a cause for kids not using the bathrooms at all during the day. Worrying about school issues at night could cause this problem. I changed my kids school as soon as my kids told me about their troubles. It was like a light switch. Day and night! Talk to him punishing a child for a medical reason or bullying does not help matters. Best of luck.

  • well i am not sure as 13 is an age that he full well knows what he is doing. Maybe he has lots of anxiety being at school or is getting bullied. Please talk to him or get him some help.

  • That can be a sign that a child is being abused. He may be too occupied in his thoughts and wait too long before heading to the toilet, by which time he can’t hang on until he gets there.
One rule here is when you get up in the morning the first place you go to is the toilet. You wash your hands before meals to remove dirt and grime. When we were at school we went during recess time and lunch time. Remind him to go every couple of hours. Maybe you should make him handwash his own undies.
